Oooo, an announcement, as a selling point for a wrestling show. Meh.

I really hope he doesn't just announce that Brock Lesnar is coming back. Don't announce that. Just have him show up.

From wrestlingobserver.com
--Chris "Tatanka" Chavis is backstage at the Raw show. The only speculation I have is that they are at the Mohegan Sun Casino, so perhaps they were looking for a Native American character, and when you think about it, there's nobody else who has any fame who isn't way too old.

Announcement will probobly be that he's sick and tired of Matt Hardy making run ins and will allow him an interview on next weeks Raw. Yes I think the announcement being advertised will be an advertisement for an interview on next week's show.

And so far it's 0-2. Guess you can't believe everything you read on the internet.

Now all I need is for Trish to show up...

I read that she was done healing, but she wanted to take a couple extra weeks off and with the slut search going on, the "writers" were in no rush to bring her back...

Oh, and JR, Coach & King? Mohegan Sun is NOT a city in Connecticut. Uncasville is. Idiots.

look, it's a GAY member of the Village People!

HBK is gold brother! Reminded me of his DX days brother! I hope he super kicks Hogan's old ass out of wrestling for good at SummerSlam brother! I miss Triple H and the Natch brother! I'm sick of this diva search horse crap brother!

Raw got off to a good start with a promo from Y2J, stating how he'll definitely win the title at SummerSlam (which he definitely won't, unfortunately). Then that jackass John Cena ran out to cheap shot Jericho. Bischoff puts a stop to the melee and says that Jericho will be the referee for tonight's match between that jackass Cena and that tool Carlito.

Vince has a "major" announcement tonight too. Why am I expecting something that we either already know, or something stupid like Viscera vs. Midget Nick Patrick at SummerSlam.

Chris Masters is out to kill time. Ugh, and Snitsky is his partner? They'll be facing Shelton Benjamin and Big Show. Nothing worthwhile will come from this. Show did one cool spot where he told the crowd to be quiet so you could hear how hard he hit Snitsky. That was worth a chuckle. The rest wasn't that great, but at least it was WRESTLING on a wrestling show. Go figure. I'll take a match over a Diva Search segment anyday.

Eugene's got a whore with him... that's no way for an Olympic Gold Medal winner to act. His opponent? Well, Kurt Angle, that's who. Hmmm, well, not really, because WWE "legend" Tatanka is out now to challenge Eugene. Where's the Berzerker? Eh, it was what it was. But the banter between Angle and Eugene was gold.

There was a quick clip of Hogan on Larry King Live, where they were actually talking as if the Michaels superkick was real. CNN was used to further an angle... a legitimate news source was used to hype a storyline. Hell, WCW never did that and they were THE SAME COMPANY.

The big announcement is next! Mr. McMahon is walking!

Ok so Vince comes out and thanks himself for creating Raw, which is now the longest running weekly fiction show on TV or something. So then he teases bringing back Brock Lesnar and instead announces that he's signed Matt Hardy to return and face Edge at SummerSlam. So Matt comes out and tells his story. For some reason he can't say Raw... it sounds like he's saying Rawl. Anyway, that was a rambling promo that got a bit uncomfortable at times. I'm not sure if that was the best way to officially reintroduce Hardy into the picture.

On his way out, McMahon bumps into Kerwin White for some nonsense. Man, if Chavo crashes and burns with this gimmick he's going to give it his all on the way down.

Wow, speaking of bad gimmicks... its Val Venis vs. Buff Bagwell Rob Conway, the Con Man. I predict Venis doing the job to the new stupid gimmick. That went on for a while, but you know what? 1 hour and 20 minutes so far and there hasn't been much useless non-wrestling crap. If you did this every week I could maybe care about a Val Venis/Rob Conway match.

Ok, this Shawn Michaels bit was a nice throwback to the old DX version of Michaels. Reminds me of something they would have done to counter something Nitro did. Not very Jesus-y of him though. Fantastic stuff. If they're not careful though, Hogan's going to get booed out of the building, as Michaels is winning people over left and right. 90 minutes of show so far, and no real complaints.

But damn it, they go and blow it by insisting on continuing the Diva Search. Ugh, they've got some lame American Gladiators thing to do. And double ugh, Rob Schneider is there to be the special judge. At least he's not all creepy and dirty like he is in every movie he's made since SNL. But fine, I'll admit I laughed at his "boner" joke and a couple of the ridiculous hijinks that went on during this nonsense. I'll actually give this segment a pass this week. At least it had a hint of athleticism.

Main event time with Cena vs. Carlito. Someone in the crowd has a sign that says "Cena is God". What a poor, miserable soul that person is. It's 10:50 EST, which means they're giving this nearly 20 minutes? Oy. Unlike last week, Jericho is just cheating all over the place, making this much more entertaining than anything else Cena or Carlito could be involved in. Of course, Cena won when another ref came in to "interfere" and count a pinfall after Jericho got knocked out of the ring. Bastard. But then, Jericho just destroys Cena's face with a broadcast camera and continues to brutalize him. Hooray!

See? If you try to put on a wrestling show, then the little non-wrestling asides are infinitely more entertaining. And if you continue to put on a wrestling show, you can get those guys over, and make us care about everyone on your roster in one way or another. This is what the WWE needs to do each and every week. Decent wrestling matches, interviews that advance storylines, and Cena not saying a word and getting his face smashed.

Decent Raw, better than last week.

Usually you "should" look forward to the end of the show, essentially the "main event". But the last 15-20 minutes were pretty standard, as per the norm.

Jericho used "stinkeroo", "rap is crap" and "ooh, that's gonna leave a mark" in his promo. Remember when he used to cut a decent promo instead of childish terms and stuff that was stale ten years ago?

"What's your name and where you from?" - That was pretty funny watching Angle getting angrier and angrier.

Tatanka! Haven't seen him in years! Looks like he's carrying a papoose around his waist.

Not a huge fan of Rob Schneider, but he made the diva stuff somewhat palatable this week. He's a WWE fan, so he didn't try to be too cool for the room. I knew those jousts weren't going more than 1 second each. Gak.

When JR and King spend the entire show saying that Cena has no chance of retaining his title, you know what's going to happen.

I don't get all the hatred for Chris Masters. He's young, strong, seems to have some charisma, and is really not that bad in the ring. Everyone hates Triple H so much, but shit all over any new guy who gets a push.

In all seriousness, if Dave Meltzer doesn't report it, it's probably not worth believing. He's occasionally off, but he's the closest thing to a lock for information as there is.
