Larry Brown is the Knicks new head coach

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2117399

Figured this deserved it's own thread. Thoughts? Tony K. said today the Knicks would win 50-55 games next year with Brown and make the playoffs. Crazy?

No. Their division is weak and they were doing ok/well in the first few months of this past season.

Its the Knicks. They'll find some way to mess this up.

Plus, Brown is great with "point guards" who like to shoot a little too much for their own good (which probably means Zeke will trade Marbury sometime next week)...

Its a damn shame, he was a good man. A moment of silence for Larry Brown.

Brown had his fun trying to mold Marbury when he was coaching the Olympic team.
I say Marbury throws a towel at Larry by game 30.

Good luck to Coach Brown. He gave Detroit 2 great years and me my most enjoyable sports season ever. Hard to see him go although Im not surprised. The Knicks do not seem to be the best situation for a Coach like Brown as their roster and current cap situation is not promising. He'll have plenty of 100 dollar bills to dry his eyes with though .

Knicks Starting lineup:
Jerome James.
His at-times uninspired (lazy) play and weight issues will be a big problem for Brown.

PF- ? Michael Sweeney?

SF- Quentin Richardson.
When the Suns trade you for shooting too many three pointers you have a problem, especially with a coach who thinks (and has said on ESPN) that the three point shot should be abolished.

SG- Jamal Crawford.
Another should be point guard who likes to put up 20 shots a night. His potential for defense due to athleticism and length could manifest under Brown.

PG- Stephon Marbury.
Everything Brown hated about Chauncey Billups in year one with the Pistons, Marbury does times 100. This is a nightmare waiting to happen between these two.

As a Knicks fan, this is great news.I highly doubt they can get to 50 wins next season though, unless they pull off some big trades.

Good move for NY. Great, great coach. Just don't believe anything he ever says.

"I'm going to coach in Detroit and this is going to be my last coaching job" - LB
"He's not going to coach the Knicks, and that's a fact." - LB's wife, 3 weeks ago

Tony K also said adding Lou Pinella would give the Rays 20 more wins. He loves the big name coaches/managers, but the Knicks still have crap talent. Basketball is still very talent oriented (like baseball, unlike football). I won't say they won't make the playoffs, because the East does suck, but I doubt they make it. The team is still built like crap with three SGs and Isiah Thomas is a certified moron.

LB will make a difference, nobody can argue that. But the Knicks simply don't have the talent to compete at an elite level. I give him 2 years, max.

I don't think he can make a big enough difference with this Knicks team. 50 win team? Doubtful. I give him 45.

It's not even that the Knicks don't have the talent right now. It's that they won't have cap space to improve in the near future either. But if they make it to the finals, I'll declare Brown the greatest coach ever.

Yes, that is indeed crazy.

Good luck. The New York fans will eat him up if they don't do well, and Marbury and him will clash. As a Nets fan, I can't wait to see them fail!

Although I must admit, they have a shot at making the playoffs. Maybe a 7th or 8th seed. New coach, same old crappy team.

I lost a lot of respect for Larry Brown with the shenanigans he pulled with the Pistons, and it's the Knicks... they'll win maybe 40 games next year.
