Lance Armstrong or Tiger Woods?

Help me end a somewhat serious argument.
My buddy, who is a golf nut, takes the position that Tiger Woods is much more of an athlete than Lance Armstrong. I struggle to see the reasoning and am wondering what you all think.
So the question is:
Who is the better athlete Lance or Tiger.

Let the debate begin.

Habs suck!!

Bigger sports figure? Tiger.

Better athlete? Lance - not even close.

How can this even be debated?

Lance Armstrong is one of a kind. He's an amazing athete the likes of whom none of us will likely see in our lifetime.

Let's see ... Lance is known for riding his bike over a distance of 3000+ kilometers and a timespan of 3 weeks faster than anyone else in the world. Tiger is known for swinging a club, walking after the ball, swinging it again, walking again, in fewer swings than anybody else.

And Tiger's a better athlete? ha ha!

That's pretty much how I break it down. When Lance starts to win more then one race per year then we can talk about sports figure.

Anyway, Lance is a far better athlete. Even the guy that has to ride a cart in the PGA can golf.

Exactly. As a golfer and a cyclist (OK, it's really just transportation for me, but still...) there's no way that Woods is the "better" athlete. However, Woods is certainly in amazing shape, and is the main reason why general fitness is much more important on the PGA tour.

As for the question, as an athlete: Lance>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Tiger, and it's not even really that close.

Pfft...golf If want to watch out of shape guys in bad clothes do almost nothing, I'll watch poker.

Armstrong is by far a better athlete. But, in addition to the hotter chickie (as devilshalo said) Tiger also makes more cash.

So Lance rides (rode) his bike for 80-90 hours for three weeks a year, about home many hours is Tiger competing? I mean his is actually do "work" like 5-10 minutes per hole, 36 holes is 360 minutes, or 6 hours. Does Tiger compete in over 14 tourneys a year?

Plus Tiger doesn't ever carry his own clubs!!

Most of the guys on the PGA Tour are in a lot better shape than you think. Sure there are guys like John Daly, Tim Herron, Phil Mickelson and other fat guys, but they're in the minority. There are also guys in great shape like Tiger, Vijay, Goosen, Sergio, Adam Scott and just about every single young player out there. The vast majority of PGA stars are in good shape because most of them work out a lot more since Tiger came onto the scene. Anyway, Lance is the better athlete just because cycling requires more physical exertion than golf. Golf requires MUCH more skill but cycling is physically harder to do so Lance is the better athlete. Then again, Tiger's all natural...unlike Lance.

Well a round of golf on the PGA Tour usually takes 4-5 hours, but let's just use 4 hours. So, Tiger "works" 4 hours per day times 4 days per tournament times roughly 20 events per year. That equals roughly 320 hours of official "work" that he does on the golf course. Of course, on average, he probably puts in at least the same amount of time practicing, so that would be 640 hours of work for the year. On a side note Tiger made $87 million in golf earnings and endorsements last year, so if he worked 640 hours that means he made $135,937.50 an hour. Not too shabby.

I've seen him. All over the TV this week, in fact.

while obviously lance is in outstanding shape
this is a pretty silly comparison
you cant really compare the two sports

but as mentioned above.. tiger also takes very good care of himself and is in extraordinary shape for a golfer.

I understand how long an event is, but out of that 4 hours is Tiger actually exerting himself? Is he swing a club constantly for 4 hours? Riders in Le Tour don't stop to rest. Tiger swings, walks, swing, walks, waits, etc.

Are you kidding? These guys are so lazy they SIT DOWN during their supposed "exercise." And don't even get me started on going downhill!

Lance Armstrong is such a pansy he wears a HELMET when he does his little races. Don't see TIGER in a helmet now, do ya? DO YA?

Did you see the Daily Show last night?

They had a picture of Lance in the yellow jersey with the caption "QUITTER!"

That's like comparing a bowler to a decathlete...

Tiger has a cuter g/f but I bet that his testicles don't glow in the dark like Lance's.

Not to mention they are in deep shit cap wise and will lose most of their unrestricted free agents (Leetch, Mogilny, Roberts, Nieuwendyk, Francis, etc...). The only guy they are likely to sign is Domi. See ya in the basement Leafs.
