it's kind of interesting to see how the field qualified.

http://www.opengolf.com/players/qual...s_category.sps

Like Tiger Woods, who qualified for the tournament nine different ways. (top 10 in last year's open, past champion, top 50 in world rankings, First 3 and anyone tying for 3rd place, not exempt, in the top 20 of the PGA European Tour Order of Merit for 2005 on completion of the 2005 PGA Championship, past US Open champion, past Masters champion, past USPGA champion, top 20 money list, and member of the 2004 Ryder Cup).

Hard to believe St Andrews is now almost 7300 yards long...

Tiger didn't waste anytime. He went out and shot a 66 and has a 2-shot lead.

Tiger is picking right up where he left off. He is -2 under thru 5 today, -8 overall, good for a 2-shot lead.

Interesting - usually people playing with Tiger implode. His good play seems to be rubbing off on his playing partner, Robert Allenby, who has moved into sole position of 2nd at -7.

Tiger birdies 13 while Allenby bogeys. Tiger moves to -11 with a 5 shot lead. It's looking to be an anticlimatic weekend.

Tiger adds a 67 to his 66 to finish the first 36 at -11. He is currently 4 ahead (of no-name Tino Schuster).

Well look who came out of nowhere today to shoot a 66 and move into 2nd at -7. The Full Monty! He'll be paired with Tiger in the final group tomorrow. Weren't they paired once before in a major with Monty shooting like an 80 or something?

I'm sorry but St. Andrews is a dog track. If everyone wasn't always told how great it is and if people could actually think for themselves, everyone would agree.

I've never been there so I can't comment. Have you walked it or played it before?

I think that the general idea is you can see a picture (or video in this case) of a bad course, and know that it is a bad course. No need to play it if you have played others like it.

You have to admit, it is the worst course that the PGA plays this year.

Well if that is the case then why would so many say that St Andrews is a great course. If it looks like shit on television (which is the limit of exposure for most), then it shouldn't have that reputation.

No, I would prefer to see a course in person before I pass judgment. For example, Avenel is a shitty PGA course.

There is no reason a major championship should not be broadcast in HD.

I kind of like the openness of the courses in the UK/Ireland. Most of them have a great history and tradition. Plus, I like the fact that they don't seem to overly manicured.
