Let's go Blue Jays!

We must win the series against the A's if we are serious about contending this season.

The White Sox better not cool off, because the Twins and the Tribe are getting hot.

San Francisco Giants pitcher Jason Schmidt's name has come up in trade rumors, though Ozzie Guillen repeated the right-hander who started for the National League All-Stars in 2003 at U.S. Cellular Field isn't in the Sox' plans. 'It's not true that I know of,' he said.
-- Chicago Sun-Times

A report in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer has the Red Sox in the mix for Bret Boone, who Sunday was designated for assignment by the Mariners.
-- Boston Globe

The player in limbo, Kenny Rogers, was voted in by his peers but has not decided whether he will participate, Rangers manager Buck Showalter said Monday. Rogers was suspended 20 games and fined $50,000 after striking two TV cameras and sending a cameraman to the hospital before Wednesday's game. The left-hander, who has appealed, declined to comment. "We'll support him either way," Showalter said.
-- Dallas Morning News

But having both Milton Bradley and J.D. Drew out for extended periods has moved an outfielder to the top of Paul DePodesta's ever-changing shopping list. Several outfielders are candidates to change teams before the July 31 trade deadline -- Colorado's Preston Wilson, Florida's Juan Encarnacion, Seattle's Randy Winn, Pittsburgh's Matt Lawton, Cincinnati's Adam Dunn (and demoted Austin Kearns) and Oakland's Mark Kotsay. Dunn and Kotsay are not priced to move and would cost a bundle of prospects.
-- Orange County Register

The Pirates are trying to trade outfielder Matt Lawton before the July 31 deadline, and several teams apparently have expressed interest.
-- Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Pirates have five potential free agents on their roster in left-handed starter Mark Redman, right-handed relievers Brian Meadows and Jose Mesa, first baseman Daryle Ward and right fielder Matt Lawton. Of those five, Lawton appears to be the only one in which the Pirates have no interest in retaining beyond this season ... The most interesting potential free agent is Redman, who has said he will turn down his $4.95-million player option for 2005 and become a free agent unless the Pirates sign him to an extension.
-- Beaver County Times

Mike Scioscia said the Angels have the same concerns as most pennant contenders, most notably depth on the pitching staff. Scioscia was confident General Manager Bill Stoneman would make smart moves."
-- Riverside Press Enterprise

Giants assistant general manager Ned Colletti presented it as plainly as he could before Monday's loss, saying, "We don't have any intention of trading Jason Schmidt. "We're not close to a deal with anybody. Our starting pitching is where we need to improve if we want to make a run in the second half. I don't think we get ourselves into a better position by trading Jason Schmidt." Even if the front office is posturing that way to jack up the price, it is hard to imagine general manager Brian Sabean dealing Schmidt unless he gets one or two proven major-league starters in return.
-- San Francisco Chronicle

Curt Schilling said he'll talk with with Terry Francona and Theo Epstein today to discuss whether and when he'll rejoin the Red Sox, refusing to make an official proclamation. But he made some comments at the end of his news conference last night that seemed to suggest his next start won't come with the big club.
-- Boston Globe

After two days on the bench, Baltimore Orioles outfielder Sammy Sosa returned to the lineup in a position that might become familiar to him in the second half of the season. Sosa was Baltimore's designated hitter on Monday, and Manager Lee Mazzilli said he plans on using the likely Hall of Famer in that role more. "At times he's gotten tired," Mazzilli said. "I think DH-ing him will help him out in the second half."

You could go tonight to see your boys tee off on Suppan, or you can go tomorrow night for a couple of hours to watch Chris Carpenter work.

ESPN.com isn't counting Giambi's 2-run HR in the 2nd inning. I guess they're assuming that he's gonna get suspended for juice so the HR won't count

Oh yeah, go YANKEES!!!!!

LB: Well the reason they are not counting it as a 2-run HR because well it was just a solo shot

Well there goes Randys perfect game/no hitter...

12-2 Yankees-Bot of 6th.

Giambi gets third hit of the game (a double to go along with a HR/double) outta four at bats and gets pinch run for. Guess if he doesn't go seven, they can't test him? LOL! great game Jason!
