Greatest Athlete of all-time?

Who do you people believe is the best athlete period, whether that athlete holds records or not, it's up to you to decide

You forgot to add Jim Thorpe.

# He won the decathlon and penthatlon events at the 1912 Olympics.
# He did play major-league baseball from 1913 to 1919.
# Football was his favorite sport. In 1912, Thorpe scored 25 touchdowns and 198 points in leading his Carlisle Indian School team to a national collegiate championship.
# Jim Thorpe was selected by the nation's press in 1950 as the most outstanding athlete of the 20th century.
# Jim Thorpe was also declared as "America's Greatest football player of the half-century," in 1950.

The drugs destroyed Maradona. Besides, in the last 25 years or so, Cantona at his best was a better player than Maradona (although he did have the penchant for karate kicking opposing fans)

And besides, he loses about 1000 points for the damn hand of god goal.

Also, why would people pick MJ or Wilt. Back in the day, the NBA changed the rules to make it harder for Wilt to play the game not easier like MJ.

Of course, I'd take Russell anyday.

Mr. Potential, but he didn't do anything to get into any HOF. And yeah, I agree he could have been one of the best ever.

Of all time you say? In that case I vote for AtleticBott 24#8994a3. I know most would argue for the Pramarkhar UltimoLM Construct or Xiao 'Milky Way' McCloud-Li (or possibly one of her clones), but it's hard to argue against 112 consecutive System Cup victories in the 'open' era.

But if you are asking for the greatest North American male athlete of the 20th-early 21st centuries (as your poll choices seem to indicate), I'd go with Jim Thorpe.
