Pretty sad state of affairs when you start mulling "Hmmmm, I hear Braden Looper's available".........

And even better was this asshole was in town to watch it:

Jim Coyne, a Yankees fan from Long Island, N.Y., said he gets a kick out of antagonizing Orioles fans, especially because so many of them loathe Yankees fans, while most Yankees fans remain indifferent toward Baltimore. Early in the game, he and his friends started chanting "1983," a reference to the fact that it has been 22 years since the Orioles won the World Series.

"I might as well take some Benjamin Moore paint, throw it on the wall, and watch it dry," Coyne said. "That's how exciting the Orioles are to watch."

The Red Sox bullpen should get better when Schilling gets back and Arroyo most likely goes to pen. But that doesnt do much regarding Foulke. Tito has proven he will give veterans a disgusting amount of time before making a move. This doesnt seem to be a little slump. Time to give someone else a chance to close, at least for the time being.

Mr. Coyne should try rooting for a team that spends 1/3 of what the Yankees do. He probably wouldn't get a kick out of that.

Florida is soooooooo not a good place for a baseball franchise. Marlins only get 20K fans in the seats with Dontrelle pitching, while the Dodgers get almost 48K fans with Elmer Dessens and no Gagne. And don't even get me started on the DRays numbers. There's more people at Walmart any given Sunday.

The only pro sport that should be played in Florida is football.

Kerry Wood returns to the hill at Wrigley! I hope his performance today will be along the same line as Prior's performance in his first start off the DL...

GO CUBBIES!

Well, in the Marlins defense, the weather there the last two evenings has been pretty shitty.

I don't know what their normal weekday attendance numbers are, but I would imagine a series with the Braves in a sunny Florida would draw a lot more than a rainy one.

I do agree about Tampa Bay, though.

In Tampa's defense, why would anyone in that area want to see a game given 1) the dump they play in and 2) the fact that the D-Rays absolutely have zero chance of contending in the division.

The Yankees' search for a younger, quicker outfield led them to a tentative deal with the Mets that would've sent Gary Sheffield to Shea in exchange for Mike Cameron and Miguel Cairo, according to a major league executive who'd been briefed on the talks.
-- Bergen Record

Florida Marlins pitcher A.J. Burnett would be receptive to signing a long-term contract with the Orioles if Baltimore made a strong push for the right-hander, according to his agent, though several sources say they have not yet engaged in any serious trade talks ... One baseball source said the Boston Red Sox inquired about Burnett on Tuesday.
-- Washington Post

Brian Cashman and Omar Minaya have engaged in preliminary talks about a blockbuster trade that would send Gary Sheffield to the Mets for a package headed by Mike Cameron, according to an executive from both an AL and NL club... In addition to the Mets, the Cubs, Rangers, Indians, Braves and Blue Jays all need corner outfield help.
-- New York Post

He doesn't have the no-trade clauses that Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez have, so Jorge Posada knows that in the turbulent Yankees universe there is a possibility he could be dealt if the club believes a shakeup is in order.
-- New York Post

With lofty expectations and growing frustration with outfield production, Chicago inquired again Tuesday about center fielder Preston Wilson. The Rockies have shopped Wilson, a free agent at season's end, but the Cubs have shown the most interest, while also focusing on Oakland's Mark Kotsay.
-- Denver Post

While many Cubs fans are rejoicing with today's return of star pitcher Kerry Wood, there could be one member of the Cubs bullpen who is going to be disappointed when Wood is activated.
-- Daily Southtown

Lee Mazzili isn't going to be back to manage the Orioles in 2006.
-- Baltimore Sun

While Royals officials won't say so publicly, all indications point to struggling veteran Jose Lima as a likely casualty when Denny Bautista and Brian Anderson return next month from the disabled list.
-- Kansas City Star

In addition to the Mets, the Cubs, Rangers, Indians, Braves and Blue Jays all need corner outfield help. Texas has definite interest in Gary Sheffield and has a young center fielder in Laynce Nix to build a package around.
-- New York Post

The Mets would not even consider dealing Mike Cameron to the Yankees unless the Yankees offered Robinson Cano, which they will not do.
-- New York Times

Two months after he last pitched in a game, Curt Schilling will return to the mound tonight. His performance will dictate when he returns to the Red Sox.
-- Boston Herald

The Mariners are said to be considering offers on three players: second baseman Bret Boone, left-handed pitcher Jamie Moyer, and outfielder Randy Winn.
--Seattle Post Intelligencer

no idea what the yankees are thinking with that deal.....

Another Radke 1st inning. .

I'm tellin' ya.......they are better off bringing in a reliever for the first two innings and making Radke throw for a good 45 minutes in the pen.

How come I'm getting ESPNNews on ESPN right now? I'm not in either the Boston or Cleveland market and not getting the game on any other station. I understand ESPN blacking out tonights Yankees-Orioles game since I do get YES Network (who is also televising the game) on regular cable and I can watch the game there. However I don't get NESN or Fox Sports Ohio on regular cable so why the blackout? You would think they want to televise the game here in Buffalo, NY area since the Indians are the parent club of the Buffalo Bisons.
