The 2005 Tour De France

Here we go. Can Lance do it again, will there be a new contender, will my favourite Jan fall apart with his inability to ride anything other than the big gears in the alps.

Why are Simoni and Cunego not racing.

Lance Armstrong talked with a number of American journalists yesterday about where he stands in his hunt for a 7th consecutive Tour victory.

On his spill last week:

"It's just an issue of a little road rash on the knee and hands and the cut on the eye," he said. The bike made it fine but the handlebars "were in pieces," he said.

To add insult to injury, he said he was stung by a bee near his other eye just before his crash. After he got up from the crash, he then said, "OK, time to go home."

Armstrong said he expected to do his last hard training ride today, then flying to St. Etienne to preview the Stage 20 time trial course, and will be at the start by Wednesday night for medial tests starting Thursday.

The time before the Tour is the worst period those three of four days where you're at the location of the start, you're waiting around, you're checked from head to toe and you're poked and prodded and you do press conferences and at the end of the day it's man, maybe I can go for a bike ride and preview the prologue course and then you finally go down the start ramp and you say, "Look, thank goodness we can finally get this thing started" because it's hectic.
He repeated that he wants his children "to see their dad in a yellow jersey one final time."

Someone asked about France having a hot July. They must have much better forecasters than we get in Atlanta -- I wouldn't trust those guys to tell me it won't snow next week.

Heh. I was just thinking of starting one today. Was catching on of the OLN pre-show dealies that I had on the TiVo. But I was gonna have a "who will win" poll.

I was a little suprised to hear that Landis (left for more $$$) and Eki (broken neck while riding near Austin) were to be replaced by Popovych and Savoldelli. Oh, and someone else I can't recall.

Now I have to finally watch the "Stage Announcement" show from a few months ago that's been sitting on the TiVo.

Fatigued Simoni to skip Tour de France
ROME (AP) Italian cyclist Gilberto Simoni will skip the Tour de France because he hasn't recovered from last month's Giro d'Italia, where he finished second.

Cunego ruled out of Tour de France

Tuesday, June 21, 2005 Posted: 1415 GMT (2215 HKT)

ROME , Italy -- Italian Damiano Cunego will miss the Tour de France as he recovers from mononucleosis, his Lampre-Caffita team has announced.

The 23-year-old Cunego, last season's cycling revelation after winning the Giro d'Italia and finishing the year with the top UCI ranking, was diagnosed with the virus after a lackluster performance in this year's Giro.

A statement issued by the team said that tests indicated Cunego was probably infected at the end of April and should be completely healthy again in two or three weeks.

I'll be rooting for Lance, but I hope Floyd Landis has a good showing. I think the Discovery Team is still too good and will overcome the (imo) stronger riders like ullrich and others with their lesser teams.

Who would have been on the poll for potential winners?
I'll have to readjust my work schedule for the next few weeks.

Work from home in the AM..

Oh... You may have misunderstood.

I don't doubt that a team would want to snatch up Landis.

My surprise was Popovych and Savoldelli being on Team Discover Channel.

I still think Armstrong can do it. Jan looked terrible in the mountains of the TdS.

Anyone reading "Lance Armstrong's War"? It's a writer that followed Lance for the 2004 season. Pretty good so far.

I know it's Lance Week on Discovery, but I'm waiting for all the shows on Discovery HD. Can't wait to see them later this week and into next week.

I'm not a huge cycling fan, but I pop in from time to time, and know most of the names.

I will stop in occasionally. However, my shitty cable provider once again does not have OLN, and I call and complain every year. I am debating whether to take my TiVo to me in-laws for 3 weeks, going there every day for 2 hours, or have them recorde the days race on VHS

Mostly I will come by to see/read what has happend that day.
