Lou Pinella's agent is meeting with DRays ownership today. I guess that relationship is about to be over following Lou's remarks earlier this week. In Pinella's defense, he makes more per year ($3.5M) than the DRays starting pitching staff combined.

He has absolutely every right to say what he did. He was mislead into believing that the ownership was going to spend some money and attract some decent free agents rather than fill the ranks with young talent. He's had his hands tied ever since he's been there.

Braves have now lost 6 straight series after losing to Texas last night.

But what can you expect when you start 7 rookies like they did last night (counting the pitcher and dh).

Reds up next for a 4 game set, hopefully they can win that series.

Jose Guillen blasted Sciosca yesterday.

"I have no respect for him any more, because I'm still hurt from what happened last year. Mike Scioscia to me is like a piece of garbage. I don't care if I get in trouble. He can go to hell."

Went to the Seattle/Philly game last night.

I can guarantee that 26,000 fans were not in attendance.

15K would be more like it.

Without a doubt. I'm glad that he a) said what he did, and b) said it the day after the game in question so no one could simply write it off as post-game frustration. He knew what he was doing, and it looks like he's going to get a ticket out.

There was speculation that the DRays owner may let him out of his deal under the condition that he doesn't work for the Yankees for a certain period of time. The guy supposedly really hates NYY and Steinbrenner, and I guess he figures that GS would look to Lou if Torre gets shitcanned.

Don't ask me how the Padres won 22 games in May. They are an absolutely horrible team right now. They haven't even been competive against the Tigers.

Rockies' Wilson on Cubs' radar
Desire for outfielder with good power drives club's interest

By Paul Sullivan
Tribune staff reporter
Published June 16, 2005

Though offense doesn't seem to be the Cubs' most pressing concern, they continue to look into acquiring a power-hitting outfielder.

Cubs sources confirmed a report in Wednesday's Rocky Mountain News that they have made inquiries about center fielder Preston Wilson, who is likely to be dealt before the July 31 trading deadline.

Wilson, a right-handed hitter who turns 31 in July, isn't the only outfielder in whom the Cubs have interest, and no deal is imminent. But his salary and age make him a must-move for Colorado even though Wilson is beginning to hit like he did during his career year in 2003.

Colorado's asking price may be too high for the Cubs for now, but there are six weeks left before the deadline. Washington reportedly turned down the Rockies, who had asked for Rookie of the Year candidate Ryan Church and pitcher Zach Day.

Wilson hit 36 home runs and drove in a league-leading 141 runs for the Rockies as recently as '03, but hasn't been as productive since undergoing left knee surgery in early 2004. Baltimore, Atlanta and Texas are also among those interested in Wilson, who is owed around $8 million of his $12.5 million salary in 2005. He's in the final year of a five-year, $32 million deal signed with Florida in 2001.

The Rockies, who are in a rebuilding mode, are likely to have to eat at least half of Wilson's remaining salary to make a deal, unless some desperate suitor with deep pockets decides to grab him before the Rockies get desperate themselves.

Wilson, who can play all three outfield positions, is a .266 career hitter with 157 home runs. He entered Wednesday's game in Cleveland with a .276 average, 11 home runs and 35 RBIs. Wilson has begun to heat up in June, with a .359 average and four home runs in 39 at-bats.

Though Todd Hollandsworth has been hitting well of late, the Cubs would like more power from left field.

Wilson always has enjoyed hitting at Wrigley, with a .280 lifetime average there, 10 homers in 82 at-bats and a .720 slugging percentage. There's little doubt he would approve a deal to the Cubs to play for a contender in a ballpark suited to his style.

So SD already lost today. Dodgers have a chance to tie up second place with Arizona with 1.5 games behind SD... interesting.

There's no way the Padres should be in 1st place considering how sucky they've been lately. I'm not exactly sure what that says about the rest of the league though.

Danny Graves pitched the 8th today in relief against Oakland. His line:
1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3ER, 0 BB, 1 K.

Mets fans have to be loving that pickup
