I like Pujols a lot but Lee is having a monster year so far at the plate.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Pujols as the starting DH and Lee at first. Or the other way around.

If you think that's funny, look at the stats of the guy that's leading AL 1B in voting. He didn't make your list for some reason.

I was wondering about that myself.

Sadly enough, Tino is an All Star when compared to the other goats from the Bronx that made that list.

Actually, those are very good numbers for a short stop.

We just expect more after Arod, Jeter, Tejada, etc.

And none of those guys are in the NL and Nomar's been out almost all year, so he's a good pick.

Have to factor in his defense as well, he won the Gold Glove last year.

He's also the best defensive shortstop in the National League, and one of the best in the majors.

Only Barnes and Lopez have a significantly stronger case as far as offense goes, and Izturis has them both beat defensively easily.

Of course, Izturis has been in a huge slump the last 2 weeks. He was hitting .340 a few weeks ago

I thought it was the L.A. factor. El Scorcho and Los Angeles teams.... not a good combination.

If you look at the "Projected Rosters" (link at the top) they don't have Johan Santana on the team. But they do have Jesse Crane? Crane's having a great season, but he's a middle reliever. Do they pick middle relievers for all-star games?

Uh, no they're not "very good numbers" for a shortstop. And that's ignoring Tejada/Arod/Jeter standards.

Shortstops in the NL that deserve to go over Izturis:

Lopez - .303/10/36, 4 stl
Reyes - .263/3/24, 18 stl
Rollins - .263/5/19, 13 stl
Furcal - .220/4/22, 23 stl

Hell, even out of the 5 guys I've mentioned (including Izturis), Izturis ranks:

Tied - 4th (Fielding %)
4th (Errors)
2nd - Range Factor

All while posting clearly inferior offensive statistics to the rest of the pack.

So someone explain to me why on earth this guy deserves to start? He's a slightly-above average fielder compared to the rest of the credible NL shortstops with an inferior bat.

This isn't LA bias, it's just a bias against fans having their heads up their asses.

Which really doesn't matter for non-power hitters. It's not like he's scraping doubles off the wall with regularity and would have 8-10 HR if not for Chevez Latrine.

It does matter because if the other players are making outs instead of home runs or extra-base hits, Izturis gets less at-bats and less favorable hitting situations and would be pitched to differently.

Also, Izturis is on-pace for 203 hits.

El Scorcho, aye caramba, you better start preparing your arguments on why Brazoban [didn't] deserve the rooke of the year award.

Looks like 2 O's will be starting. That's got to be a first since Ripken and Steroidboy Anderson in '96.

Very weak argument. How about we start incorporating weather into it? Cezar plays most of his games in a warmer and drier climate than San Francisco. Maybe Vizquel is better then.

Or maybe Neifi Perez gets the advantage of playing in more day games being in Chicago? Balls travel better in the day time.

Or lets pick through the other 829 factors. Either way, it all evens out and in the end you're left with pure statistical results that I've posted. Based on that, Cezar would barely be a candidate for a third NL shortstop, let alone a starter.

But I wouldn't expect a Dodger fan to really comprehend this.
