College Softball World Series

Anybody else watching this - pretty good stuff. Plus it is being broadcast in HD.

Pitcher's duel going right now btwn Arizona and Texas. Cat Osterman, one of the pitchers on last year's US Olympic Team has been phenominal today pitching for the Longhorns.

I've been watching the game, Osterman seems to be falling apart in the 11th but she only needs 2 more outs for the win. Brilliant performance so far from both pitchers though.

This ump is driving me crazy with her delayed strike calls.

She recovered nicely. What an effort - 175 pitches and 19 Ks by Osterman.

Now the question is what will she have left for UCLA later today? Tough break for Arizona, their offense sputtered once they reached the World Series and that won't fly against such a dominant pitcher.

LB: Well Texas started Megan Denny and decided to give Cat a rest. However it backfired as UCLA jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and Megan was pulled, Cat is now in. Texas gets out of the inning with no more damage.

Darn Wildcats! At least thanks to the rain postponement yesterday, I was able to watch their 11 inning game this afternoon vrs Texas. (I was gone all day yesterday so I missed their 12 inning 3-2 win over California and would have missed the Texas game if it was played as scheduled.)

I'm hoping for a Michigan-Texas championship series but it doesn't look good right now.

(obligatory hypocritical message from someone who really doesn't follow women's softball but will quickly jump on the bandwagon when it involves his alma mater)

I'm happy for the Maize and Blue, but, dear God, was that a whole lot of boring. There were about 2 players on each side who were really serious threats to get a hit. You had to wait inning after inning for them to come up and hope they made something happen.

Thankfully, after serious threat #1, Merchant, made an out, serious threat #2, Findlay, knocked one out of the park. I didn't want to wait 3 more innings to hope we could win.

There really wasn't a dominant pitcher like a Lisa Fernandez or Jennie Finch and still these teams went hours between hits. And I love women's sports, women tend to really seem to appreciate the moment, but what's the deal with all the smiling after strikeouts and errors?

PS-If any Michigan students post here, would you possibly post a link of where they might be selling those Championship T-Shirts online?

Thanks!

Shirts are so hard to order online. I know to get my wife a small, but, depending on how the shirts were made, it's more difficult for a man.

XL is often made to be a L, because they have the XXL.

5' 11", 170 is what I am and I'm not sure which way to go. I bet they won't start having them in stock and ready to ship for at least a week.

The hats were horrible in my opinion. They were that floppy kind of hat.

That seems to a problem in high-level D-I matchups. Pitching really dominates.

However, I wouldn't say it was that boring. There was some great fielding in this game. Plus there were some serious scoring threats before Michigan broke it open. It wasn't just strikeouts like I've seen in other games.

I don't know if there is a consensus, but the catcher from Texas, Megan Willis, is a definite hottie.

If I knew how to individually link to the pics in the galleries, I would. I don't know if you can, since it's Flash based.
