ESPN Sportscenter: who is this "new" guy?

Who is this new black guy who's been on the last month or two (or 3, don't know). He's just awful - no charisma whatsoever. It's great that he sounds intelligent (unlike, say, Stephen A. Smith who sounds like P.Diddy), but he is so boring I want to go to sleep.

What's his story?

Got to be Hickman.

He used to do some sportsdesking for TBS. And if you forgive the pun, his style is pretty vanilla. Which isn't really so bad - it could be "Boom goes the dynamite".

Yeah, Hickman doesn't give in to the urge to pepper a highlight of a routine pop-up with "Holla at ya boy!" or "He's straight trippin', yo!" He's just an anchor, which isn't so bad after you make through the "Krazee-Eyez Killah" detox program.

yeah, he may be boring, but he's so much better than Stuart Scott it's not even funny. I can barely sit through an episode of Stump the Schwab because of that douchenozzle.

Fred Hickman was also the lead sportsanchor for CNNSI's version of SportsCenter. He's a surprisingly breath of fresh air when placed among the boo-yahs and other awful sayings.

He's not going to light the world on fire but he's good, he's solid, he's very professional. Just so long as he doesn't start mentioning his girlfriend on the show everything should be fine.

Fred Hickman is one of few tolerable SC anchors if you ask me. Hickman and Nick Charles were a good team on CNN's Sports Tonight.

just keep the cocaine away from Hickman, and he'll be OK
(Hickman got fired/quit from Channel 4 in Detroit cuz he had a cocaine problem. After cleaning himself up, he got the CNN gig)

Oh I totally agree - believe me, I cannot STAND all the antics, boo-yas, Stuart Scott, and comedian shit on SC --- that's why I stopped watching it.

I just find Hickman rather boring when he TRIES to spice it up. If he could just be himself and 'give me the sports' - I'd like him a lot more.

I like Hickman. He's a nice change of pace from all the Boo yas and references of Brandon Flowers from the Killers (and I like The Killers).

Excellent references! Coincidentally, I'm reading the Sports Night thread in the forums over at TWOP (www.televisionwithoutpity.com).

I love that sketch: "Roenig shoots. He scores ..." "..and he celebrates ... like a slave who made it to the North! Oooold Man River ..."

In other news, that sig's too fucking big and nearing Ignore List territory.
