Poor Giacomo. No respect and then that horrible draw - #13. Only 6 horses have ever won the Preakness outside post 10 and no horse has ever won beyond the 12 post. This also doesn't bode well for the favorite, Afleet Alex.

The best horse in the field (IMO), once again, is Afleet Alex. He's drawn a very tough post position, however. Pimilico favors the inside post horses.

However, I don't believe he can get any worse trip than he got in the Kentucky Derby, and 1/2 furlong less distance is probably more to his liking.

The talk of the so-called 'pros' is Closing Argument.

If High Limit had drawn a more favorable post position, I might have wagered a little on him since I believe the odds will be more than 12-1 at post time. I really liked the way this horse ran in the Louisiana Derby, and he's got one of the best jockeys in the world, Edgar Prado, on him.

A more interesting race will occur 3 weeks from tomorrow at the Belmont Stakes.

Maybe - the two-year champion, Declan's Moon will be fit to run. Blues & Royals is supposed to run. He looked really, really good in winning at Dubai. There will also be some late-training 3-year olds there, I would imagine. Plus the distance is 1 1/2 miles.

I'm already planning on boxing Closing Argument in an exacta. Maybe with Greely's Galaxy. Galaxy had as bad a trip, if not worse, than Afleet Alex. I'm not as high on Afleet Alex as I have been in the past - I don't he's well suited to anything over 1 1/8.

You can rarely go wrong betting on Edgar Prado at Pimlico.

The $500,000 Gr. I Pimlico Special is being run today. The headliner is Funny Cide, just like last year. However, he is likely to scratch today just as he did last year because of the poor weather.

My pick is Afleet Alex, but i would love to see Giacomo win just to show up all the doubters who give him no shot at this thing.

Eddington wins in the slop.....rather impressively.

Jerry Bailey said about Eddington - 'he'll either make you the happiest person in the world, or he'll break your heart - no in-between.' When he's on - he's right up there with Roses in May & Ghostzapper.

If the track conditions tomorrow are like they were today, I know my Exacta - Afleet Alex & Greeley's Galaxy. Afleet Alex has demonstrated he can win on a sloppy track (he's done it twice), and Greeley's Galaxy had a fabulous work on the sloppy track.

I already like Galaxy. I'll like him even more on an off track.

It is supposed to be clear early. Maybe a shower later in the afternoon.

I don't think Giacomo will pull it out this time. This being a shorter race then the Derby combined with that horrible 13 spot should do him in.

So I'm not going way out on a limb here, and instead taking the four horses that are the closest to being considered 'favorites'.

High Fly
Closing Argument
Afleet Alex
and
Noble Causeway

I'm using these four in combos for trifecta boxes hoping to get at least a semi-decent payoff.

Thank you English Channel - hit my exacta in the Pimilco 5th (The Woodlawn). Probably won't pay much though.

Since he went off 1-2, I doubt it.

Tod Pletcher is having a pretty good meet at Pimilico. He won the Black Eyed Susan yesterday, and wins the turf race with English Channel. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a horse in the Preakness.

Looks like I'm not the only one who likes Greely's Galaxy. He's down to 10-1.

Yes! Hit another exacta with Willy O'The Valley leading the way. Like I said, you can rarely go wrong betting on Edgar Prado at Pimlico.

Talk about a jockey giving a horse bad ride - my god! I can't believe Ramon Dominguez (one of the top jockeys) and the ride he just gave Don't Talk Now on the turf at Pimilico.

1. The pace was a crawl - 26 & change for the first quarter; 51 & change for the 1/2.

2. Dominguez kept his horse on the rail when there was no room to move on the rail.

3. Don't Talk Now was obviously wanting to run with the slow pace, but Dominguez had a stranglehold on him.

I stayed away from that race. Just don't like small fields.

I'm going to be pissed if Pinpoint wins the 10th. The website crapped out.

I'll admit I was a little pissed off, because I had a little money on Don't Talk Now. I know he favors a yielding turf course, and after yesterday's rain, I figured (rightly, I believe) that the course would be yielding although it was rated good.
