Yeah, that's real good.

Funny how you don't see Boswell and others talking about how a Washington team would not effect the O's attendance anymore. Idiots.

Fortunately, the O's keep winning.

well, I've never been an O's fan (although I've lived in northern Va my whole life). plus, I really hate Peter Angelos. He was the one who said there were "no real baseball fans in DC." I'm just glad he's "paying" for that remark.

Why? For trying to protect his investment like any sane businessman would? Given the numbers, looks like he was wise to do so, don't ya think?

from a business position sure, but denying DC and northern VA a baseball team so he can make a buck is what I have a problem with.

So what is he supposed to do? Be charitable and say, "go ahead and have a team even though it will hurt my business; I'll gladly take less revenue than I did in the past. I'm sure I'll have no problem trying to keep up with the Yanks and Red Sox with less revenue. I'm sure Orioles fans won't mind." Please.

I don't care if he makes money or not, though. I want my team. The city of Washington deserves it's own team. He/the Orioles have had a corner on the market for decades. For once, something was done that wasn't dictated by a business man losing money.

Yes, but to hate someone for protecting his business interest is ridiculous.

I can understand Washingtonians being frustrated and upset with Angelos and MLB. But hate? C'mon.

Did you see Cabrera's heat last night? He's looking great! Hope Bedard continues his strong starts.

Not much better. I try to not generalize like that.

I don't particularly like Angelos because I don't think he has done a good job running the O's and hiring the right people for the front office. Hopefully, things are on the right track now.

I thought it was more common knowledge that modern business tactics are usually all about money......something that I don't like---not that I'm a commie or anything. That's all. The loopholes in the NFL with signing bonuses and the Yankees with their unending payroll....etc., this is the stuff that I don't like about sports today. Angelos seems to be only of the winning/money sense, which is fine......but not when it robs thousands of deserving fans their own baseball team.

I'm guessing that you are an Orioles fam, by the way.

Personally, it's a 3-hr drive to Seattle and a plane ticket to SF to see my two favorite teams.

I get tired of people saying that their city deserves a team when they have one within reasonable driving distance nearby, like they're underprivileged or something.

So you live where? In the middle of the woods? yeah, you're right. You should be the one having your own team and not the Nation's Capital! I agree that many cities don't deserve teams or there are other places that would be better, but I think DC is certainly a different.

I live in Portland, Oregon. Don't even get me started on who deserves a team and who doesn't. We're the biggest metro area in the country that doesn't have a MLB team.

There's no chance in hell that Washington deserved that team over us. The only thing that stopped it is the god damn liberal hippy government out here.

Of course it is about money. What do you expect from a business? Their #1 goal is to make profits. They are not in existence to make sunshine and lollipops for all. It has been this way for baseball clubs for over one hundred years. The 'money' aspect of it is just more out in the public eye now.

Yes, I am an O's fan (and former employee), but that shouldn't matter. I live in DC, so overall I am happy that there is a team here even though it does hurt the O's. I don't blame Angelos one bit for protecting his investment (which he paid $173M for) and totally deserved the concessions he got from MLB. What he did was completely reasonable considering his position.

I agree. That doesn't mean I have to like him, though. He did what he had to do, yes. I didn't mean to come off so negatively towards him. I thought it was amusing that he said there were no baseball fans in DC and then be proven wrong. That's about all I meant to be commenting on.

I get to drive just over an hour to see the Devil Rays. When I move at the end of the month, my only option will be a Triple-A team...for the Devil Rays

Tons of people were showing up for Marlins games during their first season too. It's a little to early to say if Washington has a ton of baseball fans or if they're just showing up for the latest fad.

I agree that was a stupid comment by Angelos, but what I believe he meant by that was that fans are not in DC proper. He thinks the real baseball fans in the DC area are in Montgomery and PG counties and that the O's should be outlet for them. I think these Mont & PG fans account for the attendance drain at CY.

That could be true. Time will tell, I guess.
