2005 NFL Schedule to be released today, 4/13

2 pm on the NFL Network.

Holiday season changes NFL season

By Rudy Martzke, USA TODAY

With Christmas and New Year's Day falling on Sunday this year, adjustments have been required in the 2005 NFL schedule, which will be announced today on NFL Network (2 p.m. ET).

The bigger changes will occur on Christmas weekend, but the NFL also has plans for the new year. The plans would affect the scheduling of some college bowl games.

CBS and Fox will carry a full NFL slate of afternoon games on Christmas Eve, Saturday, Dec. 24, but no evening games.

Christmas Day, Fox will televise a game at 5 p.m. ET and ESPN will broadcast a game at 8:30 p.m.

The final ABC Monday Night Football game of the season will be Dec. 26.

New Year's Eve, Saturday, Dec. 31, CBS will televise a game at 4:30 p.m. ET and ESPN will have a game at 8 p.m.

CBS and Fox will carry full slates Sunday, Jan. 1, and will have the final game of the regular season at 8:30 p.m., hosted by a West Coast team. College bowl games traditionally played Jan. 1 will be moved to Jan. 2.

The NFL previously announced four games in the opening week. ABC has Oakland at New England on Thursday, Sept. 8, and Philadelphia at Atlanta on Monday, Sept. 12. ESPN carries Indianapolis at Baltimore on Sunday, Sept. 11, following Fox's main doubleheader game involving Dallas at San Diego.

In past years teams and networks knew the regular-season schedule a day in advance and some matchups were reported early. Now they will receive it only hours before it is announced today on a two-hour special on NFL Network, which reaches 25 million homes.

"This is a big day for the fans, and we wanted everyone to get the schedule information as simultaneously as possible," NFL Network publicist Seth Palansky said Tuesday.

I've also heard that one of the Turkey day games is Vikes at Detroit.

I'd put money on the other Turkey Day game somehow involving the Cowboys

I wouldn't mind my skins playing on Thanksgiving. I'm looking forward to seeing their complete schedule.

I hate when they play on T-giving. They have a hard enough time beating the Cowboys as is. I don't think they have ever beaten them on T-giving day (in 5 or 6 tries). I prefer they get all 1 pm home games and all Sunday day games overall.

The season has only been done for about 6 weeks and I miss football already.

With KC at Dallas being the 2nd half of the Turkey day doubleheader.

Yeah - I saw that. Wasn't sure about the accuracy of it. For example, the 10/16 Wash at KC game would not be a CBS game.

I kind of hope it is wrong. I am so sick of the Redskins and Eagles playing night games here. That's the 4th straight year.

The team by team isn't (that's where you will find it when it is updated). The complete one is updated.

It isn't but the Skins have the tendency to play to the level of their competition.

Not a bad schedule for the Patriots. We play Miami after both MNF games and get a bye week on the 6th week. The only bad part is playing Pitt, SD, and Atlanta all in a row.

Considering this for "championship week" in most FF leagues, Cpep must drop a bit and LT owners should be dancing a jig right now. If there was any doubt he should go #1 in any redraft, that should cinch it. Also looks very good for Roy Williams (NO), Manning/Harrison/Wayne/Edge, and TO (AZ).

Making that any more than a very minor factor in your draft strategy is a extremely bad idea IMO.
