I haven't had a chance to watch very much baseball this year because of my work schedule so far. I did, however, catch the first 5 innings of the Sox-Yanks game at the Newark airport surrounded by Yankees fans.

Today would have been a good day for me to sit and watch, but, thanks to the scheduling gods, there isn't a game...

This begs the question, however... why do they have so many days off in April, but then after they've played 120+ games in August, there are fewer days off? Wouldn't the players prefer the off days be spread out more, instead of front-loaded?

Good question.

Maybe it has something to do with April weather usually not being as good as the other months.

It definately is a bit strange. They commented yesterday on Baseball Tonight prior to the NY-BOS game that the Rangers have to play their first 20 games without a single day off. They all agreed that was unheard of.

No kidding. 5-2 But then again it is April and not September. I give them one more week on top of the AL East and then reality will set on them.

I'll be at the Cards/Reds game milking my remaining perks for all their worth. It'll be my first luxury box experience.

I haven't decided whether to wear my Sox cap or not, though.

Your sox hat w/ that Renteria Away jersey will be quite an interesting combination.

Down w/ those uppity Reds!!!!

I may actually see a game from a ballpark suite next Friday for the first time when the 'Stros are in town. The company I work for is being bought out and the deal should finally go through this week. Our new owner is going to be taking a select few of us to a game - either in a suite or a luxury box. My wallet and I are happy either way.

I'm just enjoying their early success, no matter how long it last.

I'm wondering if that might have something to do with the weather down here. Play the games while it's still relatively cool and then hopefully get a few extra rest days in July-August. The Rangers had until the late '90s always been known for contending till around June and then fading, supposedly due to the hot summers taking their toll.

It is my understanding that they build in these extra off-days due to the increased likelihood of rainouts during the early spring season, especially in the central US and Northeast/Southeast.

Which makes sense and doesn't. Usually to open the season, you play a few out of division teams but most opponents are in your own division. Why not just do the extra days at the end of the season simply for the fact that for the last month, you play teams in your own divison.

YEAH!! I'm going to the Cubs game tomorrow, now I'll be going to a doubleheader, Kerry Wood & Mark Prior are pitching - doesn't get much better than that.

Good god, Weaver is pitching like it's BP out there. The Giants have 8 hits in the first 2 innings, and several outs have been blasts. 5-2 Giants right now.

You forgot to mention Jake Peavy and Brian Lawrence. Both games should be good pitching matchups. Wish I could take the day off to watch them on TV.

Cool

My wife just got tickets (free) for us to go to the 4/25 game against the Reds. It's our wedding anniversary too - and she still accepted the tickets

I didn't think I'd get to see a game at Wrigley this year, so I'm happy

We are also going with our neighbors to see the Cards/Brewers on Saturday. This will be our first trip to Miller Park, so I'm looking forward to that too. If I get a chance, I'm going to take out Carlos Lee at the knees and see how he likes it .
