I'm looking forward to see how Lilly pitches today. He's been shelved all spring training with a sore elbow. We need a good outing from him in order to take the series against Boston.

Edit - Fixed spelling.

Berkman suffered a setback in his rehab and won't be heading to AAA on the 12th as planned. Here's hoping Willy Taveras keeps hitting outside of his ability, and that pitchers and pinch hitters continue to unexpectedly drive him in.

I almost wrecked my car last night coming home from Huntington while listening to the game.

I'll be at field level for today's Dbacks game. Look for the guy that has a revolver pointed at his temple the entire game.

Well, on the bright side(not for you), maybe the Garner will learn that you don't have to bunt Taveras over. If he steals 2nd, he's scoring on a single. If not, he's scoring on a double. The guy is one of the fastest runners in the game. It was a blessing that Vizcaino couldn't get the bunt down.

It's too early for me to bitch about Garner, but #1, Adam Everett is not a lead-off hitter. Smallball-wise, he makes more sense at in the 2 hole if you are going to employ the bunt, because he is not going to get on base as much as most. #2, Willy Taveras is currently hot, so he makes the most sense in the lead-off spot. Everett is ice cold, and needs to be in front of either Ausmus or the pitcher, with Biggio staying in the 2 spot. And #3, don't waste a damn out by bunting over a guy who perfectly capable of moving himself over. Wasted outs suck ass, and with this line-up, they are deadly.

And Def.

I don't understand why Adam Everett is hitting leadoff for the Stros' anyways (even if he isn't cold). He's not a leadoff hitter. He's not even a #2 hitter (in my opinion, kthx). Looking at his minor league numbers, Willy Taveras would work in the leadoff spot with Biggio following. Both get on base at very good rates. Everett ... lol ... no.

Also, why is Ensberg hitting 4th? My lineup ... with Berkman out.

Taveras
Scott
Biggio
Bagwell
Lane
Ensberg
Ausmus
Everett

or

Taveras
Biggio
Bagwell
Lane
Ensberg
Scott
Ausmus
Everett

Those two make sense (but still are pretty darn poor).

I agree. Actually, you, I, and everyone not nicknamed Scrap Iron (which really only includes Phil Garner and Bea Arthur) agree. The only reason I mention Everett for #2 is if you are going to try to use the bunting game. There is no other logical reason for him to be anywhere near the top of the lineup.

I think the second line-up is probably the one I would go with with Bags remaining in the 3 hole. Bagwell still gets on base, so you have a better chance of reaching the powerful Lane with one or two runners on.

When you are afflicted with a weak starting corps, it only makes sense to maximize what you've got. Garner's line-up only serves to exploit the weaknesses. That is, unless, Ensberg regains his power stroke from 2 years ago, but early on he looks like a singles hitter.

Pitcher Carl Pavano of the Yankees left the game in the top of the 3rd inning after being hit in the head by a line drive.

Anyone see this? Is he ok?

Oh crap. I didn't see it, but I'm sure SportsCenter will make sure we do again and again.

"Please look away if you have a weak stomach *SMASH!*"

It says he was hit in the side of the head. In all seriousness, I hope he's okay.

I guess he walked off the field, which is a good sign. I remember Bryce Florie taking a liner to the face.

No kidding. That was brutal. The Yahoo story says that he remained standing after being hit, so that's another good sign.

Matt Clement must want to shoot himself right now. His run support woes have not gotten any better.

Yeah, Smoltz is pitching an amazing game, and Pedro is as well for that matter. (Mets actually have more hits than the Braves, but ofcourse are down a run).
