Fantasy Baseball RPs that will get Holds?

My fantasy baseball league had its draft yesterday. I think i did alright, maybe kind of a risky team, but i have to hope it pays off. Anyways, our league uses the Holds catagory (kind of like a non-game ending Save). Set up men usually get the most holds. I picked Chad Bradford for holds but found out he's out about half the season. I missed getting Brendan Donnelly. Do you guys have any other suggestions for guys who might get a good number of Holds?

You should look at your league's remaining players and rank them by the number of holds that they had last year. Among the leaders last year were Tom Gordon, Akinori Otsuka, Ray King... Other good RPs that gets holds includes Juan Rincon, Scott Shields, Scott Linebrink... I would say all the guys that I mentioned would be way better than Chad Bradford, see if you can pick up one of them off waivers.

I was just wondering if there were any new guys stepping up to the "set up man" roll. I'll drop bradford and trying to pick up someone who got a lot last year. I think i had Linebrink last year and he was pretty good.

Are the A's going to use Kiko Calero in the set-up role?

Try Damaso Marte of the White Sox. He had a great year 2 years ago, then sucked last year. If he could get his walks down he should be back for a good season.

Mike Gonzalez of the Pirates would be a good choice. He'll be the setup man this year and if Mesa struggles closing he'll jump into that role. His stats from last year are below.

3W - 1L - 1SV - 43 1/3 IP - 32 Hits - 6 BB - 55 K - ERA 1.25 - WHIP 0.877

I hope Mike Gonzalez is available because all the other names in the thread are already taken. Mesa struggling isnt too unheard of.

Mantei in Boston might get some holds - if he can stay healthy for more than a week this year.

Urbina in Detroit would be a good pick too.

Stay far, far away from Valverde. His arm is toast. Likely the setup roll will be by committee, unless Brandon Lyon or Oscar Villareal steals it.

Yep. He's been having a ton of arm problems and his spring has been horrendous because of it.

What do you guys think about Stanton and Quantrill from NYY? Are they good for holds or is it all going to Gordon?

Jim Brower should be in during the 8th with a lead. Herges will come in if the G's are tied or down a few.

God bless the Astros.

Dan Wheeler, Qualls, Franco...*shudder*. And that's assuming Turk Wendell and his gigantic spring ERA don't end up on the roster. Maybe the starting 5 can average 8 IP a game. Ugh.

So far everyone mentioned here (except the Q-man) have been taken. I'll have to check hudson street, but there is a good chance he's gone since most the people in the league are a's fans. Ricky Rincon is still available, maybe i'll keep an eye on him.

Talk around NY is that the Mets are trying to get Ugi to shore up their pen.

If so, he'll have plenty of hold opportunities with that starting staff.....
