The NFL season is way too long

It shouldn't take 8 months to play 16 reg. season games and a few playoff games.Play 2 exhibition games in August-start the reg. season(18 game schedule) late in August and be done with the playoffs and Super Bowl by the first week in January. No need for bye weeks when you have an even amount of teams.

8 months?

They've only been playing 4 1/2 months so far.

what does the time that they practice and prepare have to do with how long they play

thats a pretty big stretch

Hell they start working out before July. And they draft before that. And they have mini-camps. It's almost like this thing is year round! It's just crazy!

Ironically, your proposal wouldn't make the season any shorter. Even if the games started in August, with an 18 game schedule it would still end at about the same time, and still need 4 weeks for the playoffs.

Do you watch practices on television? Even including preseason, the NFL season is basically 6 months long - shorter than any other league by at least a month. Also, mid July to mid February is 7 months, not 8.

The only change I would make is to start the season on Labor Day weekend. They won't do that though.

Not really too long, but I agree that the bye's are unnecessary. Especially the week off between the conference championships and the Super Bowl.

I agree.....and I have no idea why MLB players even get a break! They should just get a week off between the WS and spring training.

I think most people here would rather see the NFL season longer than shorter, although the current format is the perfect length. It's the only sport I actually look forward to every year. The excitement starts in April and just builds until early September. After that, football is the only reason to wake up on weekends.

I guess that's why you're "dvd-4-life" and not "NFL-4-life"

So you wouldn't have to watch Vinny try to play quarterback.

Heck, just look at hockey. Do they ever stop playing. Then again, few watch the NHL anyways. If it took off 2 years, I'd never even know. Hate it.
