He's pulled out because of a hip injury, but he hope's to be back next year.

I'm one of Agassi's biggest fans but I think he just pulled out because of the way he has been playing. He wasn't expected to do much at Wimbledon anyway and if he goes out early he will have to once again face a barrage of questions about retirement. I think he is going to focus all his energy toward the hard court season and a final run at the US Open.

On the men's side I would be surprised if anyone other than Federer, Roddick, or possibly Henman, wins the tournament.

I would like to see Sharapova make a run on the women's side.

Venus has just beaten Mikaelian 6-3, 6-0.

Earlier in the day Martina Navratilova beat Castano 6-0, 6-1 in 48 minutes.

Lleyton Hewitt beat Jurgen Melzer 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.

Roger Federer beat Alex Bogdanovic 6-3, 6-0, 6-0.

Don't forget Goran Ivanisevic, playing in his last professional tournament ever, straighting the seeded Youzhny to start his tournament off.

Some thoughts from day 2:

The female Russian armada had a bit of a tough day, with Dementieva (6), Kuznetsova (8) and Bovina (20) being adiosed from the draw.

Great win for Jan-Michael Gambill over Max Mirnyi in straights, although the men's draw is always less exciting when Mirnyi loses.

Unseeded (but former semi-finalist) Xavier Malisse sent 16th seeded Jiri Novak packing. Can't say as I am too surprised at all.

Wayne Ferreira, who is two days older than me (older than dirt for a tennis player) is still plugging away, sending 28th seed Ivan Ljubicic home in 4.

It has been fun to watch some attacking tennis. Henman turned it around after a very shaky start. Safin gone.
Martina N. is amazing and women's tennis is truely poor when a 47 y.o. (albeit in fantastic shape) can beat a WTA pro 0 and 1.
Today's summary show the female announcer asked Luke Jensen and PMac if the women should be paid the same as the men. I can't believe both said yes. No one brought up the generally poor play and steep dropoff after #5 or 6 for the women or the fact that they have to play at least one less set per match. They actually should only be paid 67% of what the men get paid but are getting paid about 5-7% less.

American men's tennis is a wreck again. Agassi is clearly past his prime now although he's capable of pulling a Jimmy Connors type showing at the US Open. That only leaves Roddick. Nobody outside of serious tennis fans even know the other seeded US players.

The absence of the two Belgian ladies definitely weakens the women's draw.

Well suprise suprise it's been raining all day, I'm that bored I'm betting on whether there's going to be any play today.

Good luck to Capriati whenever she plays.

First time in five years that this has happened (no play at all on a single day).

I wonder if we'll be seeing middle Sunday action again.
