Should be a very interesting Open. The Cock is one tough course. The last 2 Opens played there saw winners (Floyd and Pavin) right around even par. It is more of links style course.

If I were to pick a favorite, I would pick Els.

Of course, there is little value on betting Ernie so I have to look elsewhere. espn.com had a nice systematic process of elimination to find the next Open champion. I liked what I saw, and decided to make those plays.

Stewart Cink 40-1
Scott Verplank 50-1
Kirk Triplett 100-1

I love those odds on Verplank. He is 2nd in driving accuracy (so huge in the Open) this year. His current world rank is 18. He did reasonably well last time the Open was played at The Cock (15th place). He has never missed an Open cut.

Quake1028 06-16-04 02:32 PM

You said The Cock. Twice.

Anywho, those are some nice odds on Sergio, even if he is a trendy pick to win right now.

mljones99 06-16-04 04:11 PM

I'm liking Sergio (trendy or not, I have liked him for a couple years now), Phil, and Tiger.

dglaser6 06-16-04 06:33 PM

come on, Duval! make the greatest story in golf history a reality.....
or at least make the cut

Luddy 06-16-04 08:19 PM

1. Els
or Singh

Mickelson Top 15.
Tiger Top8.

Gallant Pig 06-16-04 09:35 PM

Is this being broadcast in HD?

Dr_Evil 06-16-04 10:23 PM

With the current odds I'd put my money on Harrington

GMLSKIS 06-16-04 10:43 PM

Hoping for Phil to win his second major!

I could't find out if it will be HD or not but it should be. In the morning it will be on ESPN and then changes at noon to ABC. I'm hoping it will be on the HD channel of both.

Jay Haas shares the lead at 3 under after twelve holes.

Duval is 75th out of 77 players - ouch.

He did birdie the first hole! :)

GMLSKIS 06-18-04 12:51 AM

No brodcast in HD :-(

Red Dog 06-18-04 10:57 AM

Manboobs in the lead at -5.

Red Dog 06-18-04 12:18 PM

Manboobs is your clubhouse leader at -6 after 2 rounds.

Jeremy517 06-18-04 01:47 PM

Duval is +8 today through 6 holes, +21 overall.
Woods is +1 for the day, +3 overall.

Gallant Pig 06-18-04 02:07 PM

Go Lefty.

classicman2 06-19-04 09:07 AM

Maryauma seems to play tough courses well.

A golfer of the caliber of Duval simply can't lose it all in the short period of time he lost it - considering he's still young.

I like Els' chances. He was 3 over after the first 3 holes Thursday. He's now 3 under.

HistoryProf 06-19-04 01:33 PM

if els can pull it out and Tiger finishes below 6th, els will become the #1 golfer and unseat Tiger for the first time in 5 years i think it is.

Considering Tiger can't hit a drive into the fairway with any regularity anymore, I think it is just a matter of when, not if, he loses his ranking. Stopping taking advice from Mark O'Meara would probably be a good way to start ....

He's +4 for the day.

classicman2 06-19-04 04:09 PM

Woods is 4 over par for 3 rounds.

He kept his fans on 18, however, with an eagle from 95 yards.

If the wind stays up, I like Goosen.
