It's obvious at Wrigley. They even toss it from the street.

Though, I've never seen it at other stadiums. Is this another Wrigley thing?

Keep it, perhaps give it to a kid. Or throw it back, whatever strikes my fancy that day.

Keep it, take it home, put it in a closet, forget about it. Find it five years later and give it to my dog to chew on.

That is also my answer for what I would do if I caught a home team home run as well, as it happens.

At the Astros-Cubs game in Houston, when Ramirez hit the HR off Clemens, they threw the ball back. I've seen that a few times when the Cubs play on the road--fans of other teams mimicking the Wrigley tradition.

At Wrigley the majority of the time the ball thrown back isn't the homerun ball.

People out in the bleachers bring balls with them and if they catch a ball they switch it with the ball they brought and throw that one out onto the field.

I've sat in the bleachers a good 20-25 times and have witnessed dozens of balls caught. The majority of the time, the HR ball is thrown back. Only like 30% of the time, it's not certain if it's the actual HR ball (presumably it's not). Even on TV, you can see the ball being caught, then the fan throwing the same ball right back.

Unless it is Wrigley, keep it or give it to some kid.

Keep it. Especially if it's at Wrigley, since chances are the opposing team would have to be the Cardinals for me to be there.

If I am a fan of the player, I'll keep it. If not, give it to a kid.

If a Cub hit it - do everything w/in my means to destroy and send the remains to my brother-in-law.

The last guy who threw from the street that I saw frickin' CRANKED it! It almost reached the infield and got him on Sportscenter!

I can't really decide if I like other teams emulating Wrigley traditions...in some ways, I suppose it's cool, but I'm also tempted to say, "Sorry suckers, this is a Wrigley Field thing...get your own traditions". But who knows...maybe some baseball guru
will announce that throwing back a homerun ball originated in 1894 in some park in Cucoamonga.

Yeah, the kids who catch some home runs do have quite an arm. Reminds me of a great flick called 'Rookie of the Year'.
