Jerk Cardinal Fan

I'd use a different word then jerk, but i don't want to get removed.

Did anyone else see this on Sportscenter. This guy took a foul ball (may have been a homerun, i wasn't paying attention at first) from a little kid. Holds it up and what not. People were all booing him. The sportscenter guys were just ripping the guy to shreds (so where the TV announcers during the game).

Finally a little kid walked up and gave him his ball. The crowd cheered. They interviewed the guy and were ripping him. Finally, Reggie Sanders gave the kid a ball and a bat.

Its a must see, so watch Sportscenter tonight. I don't do it justice.

Yeah, but this guy is obviously a Texan, so he doesn't count.

St. Louis led 12-0 in the third when a foul ball hit into the stands by Matthews got more attention than anything on the field.

In the ensuing scramble, a husky man jumped over a row of seats and pinned a 4-year-old boy against the seats with his legs while diving to get the ball. To no avail, fans started chanting "Give him the ball! Give him the ball!"

But the boy, who wasn't injured, ended up with much more than one ball. In the next few minutes, both teams sent bats and balls to the boy, including Cardinals outfielder Reggie Sanders coming out between innings to do so.

"In my heart, I thought I should do something," said Sanders, who initially saw the incident on the clubhouse TV. "It's all about the kids."

There was also a little extra for the man who got the ball, but he left two innings later and never received the Cardinals T-shirt on which "Tough Guy" and "Ball Stealer" was written by reliever Steve Kline.

"I'm a big fan of giving kids balls. He was a real jerk about it," Kline said. "That's part of life, people like that in the world. They do something like that. I don't understand."
Steve Kline may be my new favorite player (and Reggie Sanders, too).

1) spry enough to jump over seats?

The fans around right field at Busch Stadium love Reggie Sanders. Every inning after taking long toss he throws the ball into the stands at people who wave at him, etc. People are starting to make signs w/ bullseyes on them - it works, too. Reggie is cool as hell.

Everybody loves Steve Klein - he is a big, goofy son of a bitch. They don't give the nickname "The Governor" to just anyone.

The highlight they showed on sportscenter did not show the fat guy taking the ball from the little kid ( as the OP stated) he dove by the kids family , and with his head on the ground kicked the kid. ( He might not of done it intentionally).

The kid made no attempt at the ball and by the look on his face could of cared less, the mom seemed to make a big deal out of it.

Ball diving is commonplace among adult folk and kids are just another obstacle to the ball.

If the game wasn't 12-0 they would not have focused so much on it. The Cardinals annoucer went way overboard.

no shit. The guy may have crossed the line diving into a different row for a foul ball, but that kid had NO idea he was even at a baseball game. To say he "stole" the ball from a little kid is not only misleading, but flat out retarded.

Don't get me wrong, the guy was even more of a douche bag for diving into other rows for a ball and not just giving the kid the ball when it all went down.

Yeah...I didn't want to rain on everybody's "this guy's a total prick" parade, but I watched the video, and the kid wasn't even looking at the ball....

Regardless, you'd think he'd be reasonable enough to hand it over...hell, it's a kid at a ballgame....and you're on TV fool!

I saw it last night, the guy was into the row in front of him and his body pushed the kid into the seats I believe. He wrestled the ball away from the kid's mom. The newscasters were ripping him up good. To hear them doing the interview w/ the guy was funny too.

Obviously perspective plays alot into this, but just looking at that picture I'd say the guy is a prick. Maybe not so much for not giving the ball back, but to throw his body over rows of seats without regard for other's safety.

You didn't need to specify "Jerk" in the subject header.

Being a Texas fan I can guarantee that the jerk was a Cardinal fan. Seriously, I know all 12 of us.
