Slow baseball day...so let's have some fun.

Let play fantasy baseball....but in the twilight zone. Everything is backwards so you get more points for having really bad players. The more they stink, the more you win. Who would you have on your team? Tougher isn't it? Everybody knows the all stars, but nobody can ever remember the bad players except for the ones on their favorite team. That is....except for Mantei....and he's on my team.

I'll take the starting lineup of the Arizona Diamondbacks that are currently under 35 years old.

Wabio,

This is the basic premise behind what Baseball Prospectus does at the beginning of each year with what they call the Hacking Mass contest.

The key is being able to identify guys who suck* AND will get regular playing time AND not get injured.

DarkElf's Sink Holes is currently in 190th place out of 1312 teams that were entered.

Here is my team:
C: Brad Ausmus
1B: Darin Erstad
2B: Tony Womack
SS: Cesar Izturis
3B: Mark DeRosa
LF: Carl Crawford
CF: Alex Sanchez
RF: Michael Tucker
P1: Elmer Dessens
P2: Ramon Ortiz

Yeah, Izturis is hitting for a pretty good average so far, but he's not a BAD pick because he's just a singles hitter. If he gets that average down to .260 or something, he'll be a solid pick.

Does Rick Ankiel still play? If so, I'll definitely take him

Incidentally, the formulas for the Hacking Mass contest are:

For hitters: (.800-OPS)*PA
For pitchers: (ERA-4.00)*IP/3

So for hitters, if you select a punch and judy type of hitter who never walks, you're in pretty good shape. That's why Izturis is still an okay pick, despite his .300 average.

But, here's the current Hacking Mass leaders at each position:

Spoiler:
C: Ramon Castro (Ausmus is #2)
1B: Robert Fick and Josh Phelps are tied
2B: Adam Kennedy
SS: Neifi Perez
3B: Mark DeRosa
LF: Juan Encarnacion
CF: Tike Redman and Marlon Byrd are running neck and neck
RF: Ron Calloway

Top 5 pitchers:
1. Scott Elarton
2. Brian Anderson
3. Ryan Vogelsong
4. Sidney Ponson
5. Jason Jennings

I'm a high average spray hitter with warning track power and decent speed. Kinda like tony gwynn. Only without the blackness. And the gay-sounding voice. And the 80 extra pounds.
