The Red Sox have the best record. And Nomar will be examined today. He could begin a minor league rehab assignment next weekend.

Seattle's off to a quick start, although it could have been a lot worse.

Yeah, I guess after Thursday, everything could be a lot worse. After 2.5 innings, 7 Mariners have a hit. Not so good.

Sox come back with three runs in the 4th... two on Manny's league-leading 14th homer.

5-3 Seattle.

Beltre needs to be fixed. He is broken. Poor guy's trying to play on one leg. My understanding is that the bone spur isn't actually helped by rest. Surgery is the only thing that will help, but the recovery from that is about a month or so.

And only Beltre can decide to have the surgery.

He is reaching out for the low outside pitch once again and not going the other way with it as he was at the beginning of the season. It's almost seems he wants to end his at bat. Only he can decide on the surgery but Tracy can nudge him along by benching him. Right now he is a liability to the club as even his defense is suffering.

The White Sox send their 4th different 5th starter this year out to the mound today and get the same result as Rauch is lucky to only give up 5 runs in 4 innings

Atleast the Twins lost

News and Notes: May 29th, 2004

* Los Angeles has activated outfielder and speedster Dave Roberts from the disabled list and is eligible for action during the weekend series against Arizona. Roberts, initially excited to be healthy and able to play at full speed again, was found in the clubhouse locker room before the game trying to slice his own achilles tendon with a rusted razor blade found in Eric Gagne's goatee once he was told he still had to play for the Dodgers. A psychiatric consult is pending.

* Troubled outfielder Raul Mondesi will make his Anaheim Angels debut Sunday night in Chicago versus the White Sox after signing a $1.75M deal for the rest of the season with the injury-ridden team. Mondesi will fill-in in the outfield while the Angel regulars take time to heal and will resume responsibilities as David Eckstein's chaperone during all road-trips shortly thereafter.

* Former Major League star Reggie Jackson had his number retired last weekend by the Oakland Athletics during a pre-game ceremony before the Athletics battled the Royals. LAPD Detective Frank Drebin, still holding a fierce 15-year grudge against Jackson, refused to attend the ceremony.

* Expos' manager Frank Robinson recently announced that he would be willing to return next season to lead the Montreal Expos during their 2005 campaign. When pressed for comment on why he would volunteer for the job again despite the team's uncertain future, Robinson quipped, "It's simply nice to be able to have a job in such a quiet and relaxed working environment."
