Obviously McGriff is one of my all-time favorite ball players. I went to all 3 Padres-Devil Rays games this week (behind the TB dugout each time), and got to see my man in all 3 games. I'd never seen him play in person before this week.

He started tonight, so I got to watch him play 1B and get 4 real at bats, plus his home run. Quite a thrill for me. I was snapping pictures, and got a shot of his home run swing, plus a few more during his post-game interview on FSN.

WTG, Freddy. Just 7 more!

espn is doing an outside the lines segment on fred
discussing his chances for the HOF

although these last 7 homeruns seem questionable

I could do without the extreme close ups of Piniella and Zimmer.

i guess i was wrong
doesnt seem the story was directly about fred
more about whether 500 homeruns is still the magic number and how fred may be the first player to ever be denied entry into the hall after reaching that mark..

i dont think he will make the hall... but it will spark one hell of a debate if he reaches 500

Heres the article from ESPN.Com. I dont know if its been posted before, but its about why McGriff doesnt deserve to be a HOFer.

Interesting article. But as I read it, it made less and less sense. He started comparing different eras, and saying how McGriff didn't deserve to go to the HOF because of that. I don't know. The more that I think about it, I think he DOES deserve to go to the HOF.

Sure he never won an MVP, but he was a pretty consistent offensive force for 5 or 6 years there. He played on a team that was always in the playoffs. And he is most likely going to reach 500 home runs. I think he desreves to go.
