more results (scorcho style):

Kitten Kats - 9, Slugs - 8;
Win: Bill Dongsdale
Loss: Some Chick
save: none

mvp: Andy with a 3 run homer

DaveNinja fantasy stats:
yesterday: 2 for 3, double and run scored
season: 2 for 6

Injury report: DaveNinja did a flip and landed on the side of his right hand after the first baseman decided to sit/kneel on first base to catch the throw. He's day-to-day with a sore pinkie and ring finger and some wrist pain but should be back in the line up next week.
I just noticed this morning that my hat had some white chaulk on it, so somewhere along my trip my head hit the ground and i didnt remember.
There was also almost a fight at the end. the other team felt that our 3rd baseman blocked the base line and cost them a run. The umpires didnt call it. We were home team and didnt have any outs at the end and could have scored another run anyways. After the game when we were doing the "good game" hi-five hand shack thing with the other team; one of them acted like he was going to hi-five them pulled away at the last moment (in a dis'ing manner) so one of our guys said "ohh poor sport wont shake my hand" which escalated into "want a piece of me" and some yelling. I was too busy with my hand in the ice chest to see it all.

Nice to see the O's have a game against a team with less than 6x the payroll that they do.

It's the combination of all 3 at once.

No Phillies, no Cubs or Astros, no Giants.

My predictions are generally bad. William Hung-bad, where at first they may provide some chuckles, but usually end up evoking pity and annoyance.

But there is no way Cincy plays like this all season. No way. They are like Texas: a great line-up whose pitching will eventually do them in.

I suppose. The Reds are overachieving right now though, and I didn't expect anything from the Giants this year.

And Cincinnati's been able to put this run together while Adam Dunn's bat has been in cold storage.

The Reds are overachieving?

I thought the word "overachieving" being used in April and May were reserved for teams like the Cubs or the Dodgers, since they're bound to fad come August and September.

Baseball Prospectus ran a nice article on Cincinnati and the rest of the NL Central

Standings by Record

Reds         27-20    --
Astros       26-20    .5
Cubs         25-20   1.0
Brewers      24-21   2.0
Cardinals    24-22   2.5
Pirates      20-22   4.5

Standings by Run Differential
Astros      +61
Cubs        +38
Cardinals   +17
Brewers      -1
Reds         -3
Pirates      -3

Which standings looks more like the NL Central.

Not surprising. He was down to three teams: Boston, Baltimore, and Anaheim. He wanted to play for a team with a shot at the post-season, so Baltimore may have been ruled out first. Boston reportedly low-balled him ($600,000 for this season, per Gammons) and one can assume that after Nixon and Nomar return, he wouldn't see nearly as much playing time.

Anaheim had money and playing time.

Interestingly, Jayson Stark said at least one baseball exec insisted that Mondesi's return to DR never had anything to do with his family nor the financial problems he was having. He believes it was a play to get out of his contract and choose a better situation. Obviously, that is a strong accusation, but the speediness of his return is certainly questionable.

edit - Wow. Mondi is saying that he's getting $1.75M for the remainder of the season.

As expected, Tampa Bay has purchased the contract of Fred McGriff from AAA Durham. McGriff is expected to be the full-time DH with Fick really playing like crap.

I hope Mondesi can make an impact. The Angels could use another bat til the big hitters get back.

In the same line-up with Guillen and Vlad, I'd say that it's a relatively safe bet that he performs better than the role players. With people saying Anderson is still months away from returning, it's a good pick-up.

With the mood I'm in, they may remain MIA. The gf and I are waiting to see if our offer on our first house is accepted, and I am an absolute wreck.

Perhaps Scorch could pinch hit.
