Randy Johnson throws perfect game

From Yahoo:

Randy Johnson made history Tuesday night, becoming the oldest player ever at age 40 to throw a perfect game when he blanked the Braves 2-0. Johnson also became the first to execute a perfect game since 1999. Cy Young, who threw the first modern perfect game 100 years ago this month, was previously the oldest to pitch perfection at 37.

I wouldn't say it's unreasonable. Not everyone reads the daily MLB threads. This is certainly deserving, if anything is.

Congrats to the only man I have ever seen video of killing a bird during an organized and sanctioned MLB event. And here I didn't know if he would ever top that.

Yeah I think this warrants a separate thread. I mean christ, there's been what -- 16 of these now in the entire history of baseball?

And this is only the 3rd time in 13 years..

Do you realize that now RJ has two very historic things to his credit? 20 K's in 9-innings AND a perfect game?

Yes, it needed its own thread. Though the fact it was vs. the Mariners comes as no surprise this season.

Isn't it a little early for interleague play?

Eh, just replace Mariners with Braves. It will still make sense.

It's close, but I think it's okay in this case. The reason we're even allowing this thread is because some people don't read the daily MLB thread. If the thread title doesn't mention that he did something special tonight, it probably won't attract the attention of those people anyway. If this were a playoff game, it would be a different story, but it's a game in May between two mediocre teams and just not a NO SPOILERS type of game IMO.

I'm just not a black-and-white type of guy when it comes to rules. But if people feel differently, LMK and I'll be more strict in the future.

btw..

hell yea it deserves its own thread..
this has been done what.. 16 or 17 times in the entire history of the game?????

i think is safe to let a perfect game have its own thread.. the once every 5-10 years that it happens

I just got to see the highlights on SportsCenter. Wow. Freaking awesome. One of the only times I've ever seen RJ smiling. Big time props to Robby Hammock. He's shaping up to be a fantastic young catcher.
