How come when a-rod leaves a team, they get better? I think the year after he left the M's tied the ML record for wins, and now Texas is much improved.... WTF?

News and Notes:

* Moises Alou is in the midst of a slump that coincided with a shocking report. According to the report, Alou, one of the few Major League players who doesn't use batting gloves, urinates on his hands to toughen them and to lessen blisters. Questions have hounded the Cubs slugger, but he is not talking.

"I don't want to talk about that because I told that to somebody who wasn't supposed to print it,'' Alou said before Wednesday night's game." Following another frustrating plate performance that night, a dejected Alou told ESPN's Gary Miller, "It's weeks like these that make you want to just go home, take a nice relaxing bath, and shit on your feet."

* Cubs SS Alex Gonzalez broke his wrist and will be out for 6-8 weeks after being hit by the Diamondbacks' Mike Koplove. The plate umpire, Charlie Reliford, ruled that the ball had been fouled off, and Gonzalez went on to not only complete the AB with a strikeout, but continued in the game. Gonzalez later crushed a 460 ft. home run off of D-Backs reliever Matt Mantei.

* MLB commissioner Bud Selig, in his first visit to Oakland since 1989, declared that the A's must build a new baseball facility or they will not survive. Oakland residents were enraged by Selig's comments, learning for the first time that the city was home to a baseball team.

* The story of Jeff Liefer, Indians minor league pitcher, has been gaining national attention. Last Thursday, a game between Cleveland's AAA affiliate Indianapolis Indians and the Louisville Bats was delayed 20 minutes after Liefer accidentally locked himself inside the dugout bathroom.

Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia wonders if there is not a bathroom safety issue around the league, however, pointing out that SS David Eckstein is routinely locked in the Angels' clubhouse bathroom for hours at a time.

You're like the Albert Belle of the forum. Played great for a few years, got a big contract, and now you're fading.

Pathetic cover, but nice try. Since when is giving "out of 5" the norm? If you can't count, then just admit it. It's okay to admit such things. We're all amongst friends.

BTW, Mad Dawg, you're a little rusty (El Scorcho's right about that) after being off a few days. I give you 3/4.

Namja, I've been using post rating systems since mid last year. They've always been #/5. Quit being an anti-establishment non-conformist!

Ahhh, the ESRS (El Scorcho Rating Systems). Duly noted.

Anyway, back to MLB news. I like how the Cubs play the majority of its home games during the day. Now, having said that:

START THE DAMN GAMES ALREADY.
