NBA Draft 2004.....thoughts

Personally, the way this draft will go(and you can write this down and quote me on it) is this. If Orlando gets the #1 pick, they will select Emeka Okafor(the only player they need). If Chicago happens to land a draft pick from #2-3 look for them to most likely take Duke's Luol Deng. If Chicago happens to get the #1 pick, they will formulate a trade involving Tyson Chandler or Eddy Curry and draft Okafor. In any event, there is no way that Chicago will draft a High Schooler this year. They are too dissapointed in the development of Curry and Chandler too think about doing that. They won't gamble on Dwight Howard, even though he has a trmemdous upside. They don't need Shaun Livingston know that they have a great point guard in Kirk Heinrich. So the Chicago will either A) Trade the pick for a great player B) Draft Emeka Okafor C) Luol Deng. Right now, word on the street is that Chicago, actually is hight on Deng than on Okafor, so it will be interesting to see what happens in the coming months.

twikoff 05-02-04 02:30 PM

as good as okafor may be.. the injuries have gotta scare some teams

its going to be hard for a team to pass up howard with the first pick

As they should be.

They all ready have a power forward with a bad back in Chandler, why trade him and then draft another one? Paxson should be thankful Deng came out and he should be fired if he passes on him.

Dalvin 05-02-04 10:08 PM

Totally agree

i was thinking to myself, what was Chicago going to do if he didn't come out? I agree, if Paxson passes on him for any other player(and that includes Okafor) he should be fired. Chicago needs Luol Deng. Can you imagine a lineup of Heinrich, Deng,Chandler and Curry. That's very impressive.

Jericho 05-02-04 10:48 PM

I'd think Orlando has a lot more needs that just Okafor. Like any NBA draft though, it doesn't really matter what a team needs so much as the talent available. I'm sure the lottery will throw a kink into the plans of some teams though.

Just show the ping pong balls damn it!

~~ PAL ~~ 05-26-04 09:19 PM

Well, Orlando won the 1st pick in the lottery, and followed by the Clippers and the Bulls... The rest just went by the teams' win-loss records.

Jericho 05-26-04 10:19 PM

And the poor Wizards fell all the way to 5th. I swear they have to be the unluckiest team in the league, not to mention the worst run. That combination is just lethal

MrX 05-26-04 10:47 PM

I'm happy with the Bulls getting the 3rd pick. They won't have the chance to draft Okafor and Howard will be gone also. That leaves Deng for them:up:

fumanstan 05-26-04 11:24 PM

Now to see how the Clippers manage to screw up again!

Sweet, maybe a draft pick will work out for them.

Aphex Twin 05-27-04 12:42 AM

I have a feeling the Clips may take Ben Gordon.

Josh H 05-27-04 09:26 AM

I'll be extremely dissappointed if the Magic don't take Okafor. He'll go a long way toward solving there inside woes. If they can pick up a point guard (maybe trade Howard) they'll be in good shape.

Plus there's always the minute chance Hill could come back and play this year. But I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Les Boulez....will they ever win? Oh that's right - they did a few years ago and picked Kwame Brown. rotfl This team is so pathetic that it is comical.

Timber 05-27-04 10:54 AM

This was the year fot Les Boulez to win the lottery. Another year with no sure fire star. Exactly like the Kwame Brown year. I hope this is the year Orlando takes there pick.

The amazing thing is the bad luck in this lottery process they have. They've missed the playoffs in 15 out of the last 16 years. Meaning they've had a shot to land a top 3 pick everytime, even if their chances weren't always great. And how many times did they manage a top 3 pick? Once. In a terrible draft year

The only comparable team to them is the Clippers and they at least managed to net a top 3 pick in 2004, 2001, 2000, 1998, and 1995.

It's sad how few of those players I've heard of.

Wizard draft stategy.....If all else fails draft a freak (short or tall) or draft a local player.

rotfl

I've had to listen to DePaul fans talk about how they're going to be the dominant program in the state now ever since they beat a shitty Dayton team and got crushed by UConn in the NCAA's. Never mind the fact their coach flirted with a crappy St John's program.

Wright was their key recruit this year so this is funny.

tofu 05-27-04 10:21 PM

Luke Jackson to New Jersey is very interesting. He could do very well over there.

wildcatlh 05-28-04 07:41 AM

I fully expect the Hawks to be giving the Clippers the 6th and 17th picks for #2 so they can take Howard. It just makes too much sense on both sides.

Not thrilled with Iggy at #3. He's a great athlete but has no outside shot and was a cancer in his time at Arizona.

Yeah, they would be crazy if they took him over Deng.
