Indeed. I think the Cardinals are learning the "Yankee" lesson:

Even if you hit a monstrous number of home runs, if your pitching SUX, you won't be a contender.

They haven't learned a thing - it's the same stategy that they have been using for years and they go nowhere. If anything, the Yanks are learning the Cardinal lesson.

This season is the LaRussa Farewell Tour - get your tickets while you still can!!!

I often wonder what kind of decisionsJocketty and LaRussa would make, in regards to the pitching staff, if they didn't have the "great" Dave Duncan on the coaching staff.

And how many years has it taken the Cubs to learn how to build a successful team? I highly doubt you need a reminder.

Byung Kim's first Fenway appearance since he flipped off the fans last year. And its a day/night doubleheader.

I hope he's written all of the necessary reminders on his hand.

1) Do not exhibit middle finger unless other four are equally extended.

2) Do not hit/walk/give up home run to first batter.

3) Hanging sliders = bad

4) This is April.

I think Kim is going to be relieved by Wakefield early on.

And on a seprate note, when I was at the game yesterday, some guy ran onto the field. In light of this, I have adopted a controversial new opinion:

A fan running onto the field is 10 times more exciting than a walk-off grand slam.

I'm sorry, but I just love it when Rush is taken off of the air for Cardinals baseball. Even when the Cardinals suck, it's a good thing.

For a Giants fan, you're pretty demanding. I'll see what I can dig up.

The ball getting lost in the sun is my alltime favorite highlight. The split second that the fielder's face goes from "I got it", to "I have no clue" is priceless.

Yeah, I want to hear what his prognosis is for Tony Womack.

News and Notes:

Cubs starting pitcher Kerry Wood and manager Dusty Baker were suspended for 5 games and 1 game respectively for angrily confronting umpires during their recent loss to the Cincinatti Reds. Baker's wife reportedly explained the manager's suspension to their young son Darren by saying that Baker had been given "a time out for a temper tantrum." Baker's wife then yanked the oblivious Darren from the path of an oncoming bus.

The San Fransico Giants have transferred closer Rob Nen from the 15 to 60-day DL, prolonging Matt Herges' stint in that role.

The Giants placed SP Dustin Hermanson on the 15-day DL. He has been replaced in the rotation with RHP Matt Herges.

Adding to injury woes, Giants 2B Ray Durham has been placed on the 15-Day DL. Matt Herges will assume the role of 2B and lead-off man in his absence.

Astros starting pitcher Andy Pettitte and Boston Red Sox starter Byung-Hyun Kim will both make their anticipated returns in Thursday early games. They will also both become readily available on fantasy league waiver wires at around 4PM EST.

Anaheim Angels SS David Eckstein received great news on Thursday, learning that he may be able to avoid the DL despite an injured groin.

The Anaheim Angels received disappointing news on Thursday, learning that SS David Eckstein may be able to avoid the DL despite an injured groin.

The Angels have also lost All-Star OF Garrett Anderson to the 15-day DL. Anderson injured his back during an ill-advised attempt to politely smile after teammates left him alone with Angels color-man, Rex Hudler.

Richie Sexson, 1B for the Arizona Diamondbacks, was placed on the 15-day DL following an injury to his shoulder while checking his swing in yesterday's game. The freak injury took place as Sexson decided to take his first pitch in 3 seasons.

twikoff, does it take a long time to prepare the schedule and standings? Here are a couple inputs from me:

1) You've pinpointed the reason why most of the links don't work, because they're relative links. You could add a "http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/" to the beginning of all links affected, but yeah, that'd be a pain.

2) BUT, it'd be nice to have them for maybe the pitchers' names and team names. I edited your posts today to reflect these, and also added "target=_blank" so they'll open in a new window. What do you think?

I wish the Yankees were hitting a monstrous number of homeruns. To date, the only thing they HAVE been hitting is .200.

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Tony Womack is expected to return this weekend. Womack warned, however that "we don't want to rush it." Womack's tricep was injured while slapping his forehead after catching a glimpse of his batting average on DiamondVision.
