correction.. bonds scored on tuckers double
of course the durham homerun was before bonds came up to bad

and the next time bonds came up.. there was 2 outs and noone on.. and they went after him and got him to ground out to the shortstop
see.. nothing to it.. its easy to get him out.. they should go after him each time now

Oh shit, the Padres just caught a huge break. Bases loaded (via 3 Valverde walks) with 1 out, and the Padres pinch hit Kerry Robinson! Ground ball to 3B and Hillenbrand throws home, but bounces it in the dirt and the runner is safe. TIE GAME!

I'm doing a beer tasting and I'm distracted. I guess I hit back awhile ago, and since it doesn't automatically refresh, I thought I forgot to hit submit. Never mind.

Anyway, PADRES WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Klesko with the big 2-out base hit.

Well, the strategy worked 4 out of 5 times. I'd take that any day.

4 out of 5
twice tonight it didnt work

is that some sort of chicago math?

only takes once per game that it doesnt work, to cost you the game..
dodgers scored a couple in the 9th.. it was those insurance runs that won it for the giants.. and the insurance runs were assisted by the intentional walk
not to mention the other run that resulted earlier thanks to the intentional walk
those runs may have cost them the game

I think he means that the Dodgers have won 4/5 from the Giants so far this season by avoiding Bonds. Not too shabby for a team that only won... i think 6 games the whole previous season against them. Yeah the Giants are worse and the Dodger offense is better, but hey, no reason to mess with success.

They WON 4 out of 5 games using this strategy; winning is ultimately the only thing that matters.

You're right about today's game. The walks contributed a lot to their losing the game today. But the walks contributed just as much to their winning the 4 games. In the first 4 games that the Dodgers won, out of Bonds' 18 plate appearances:

Dodgers walked him 7 times - led to 1 run.
Dodgers gave him 11 AB - 4 HRs, 1 Double, 3 Singles, and got out 3 times. That's 8 for 11 which is a .727 BA. He also got 9 RBIs with those 11 AB.

At least for the Dodgers, walking him is still the best strategy. Regardless of the situation. Even if they're up by 10 and it's the 9th inning.
