Another favorable pitching matchup for the sox today, hopefully that translates into a win.

Lowe is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA, while Contreras is 0-1 with an ERA of 8.44.

I would say the Cardinals would sweep the Rockies today, but Woody's pitching. But they are playing a team in the NL West, so they might have a chance.

So then technically you aren't going to Wrigley. You are going to the building behind it.

Anyone see Pudge talk smack to Lawton after Lawton hit a HR to lead off the bottom of the 1st? Lawton sort of stood there and watched it go out, then went around the bases. About 3/4 of the way to home plate, Pudge met him and walked him back to home plate talking shit to him I guess.

Sweet --- Pudge rules

Dodgers tied for the best record in baseball? Tis a glorious day.

Like i expected, Lo Duca is getting the day off in the finale against the Giants. Hope the rest of the team can keep up the offense.

Dunn hit his 6th homerun of the season.. and the first one that wasnt a solo shot!! (he had 5 homeruns and 5 rbis on the season)

this one was a 3 run shot in the first inning (off of maddux, who is already 0-2 since returning to the cubbies)

I dont think its that unusual to root for both American League and National League teams. I pull for both the Pirates and Red Sox...it's not like there has ever been a huge conflict between the two.

Giants = childhood team, first team I ever rooted for
Mariners = "local" team that I can see on a regular basis

I guess I just have a hard time dealing with SoCal fans who seem to flip-flop between the Angels and Dodgers depending on who's doing the best. What the hell ever happened to rivalries?

Brooklyn and New York (Giants) were bitter rivals. Cubs fans generally don't give a shit about the White Sox and vice versa. Same with Mets and Yankees fans.

But for some reason you don't see any thing of the sort with Angels & Dodgers fans. I think it's mostly because Southern California is a frontrunning area.

It isn't much of a rivalry when they only play a few interleague games. Maybe if they met each other in the World Series fans could pick one side and stick to them. For me, i grew up in Orange County but for whatever reason got attached to the Dodgers... don't care much for the Angels, even with their 2002 win and their offseason moves, although its hard not to read about them every day. Oh well, considering how Angels fans were non-existant until they started winning, i'm glad i'm just proud i'm not a bandwagoner. Go Dodgers!

El Scorcho...there is no rivalry between the Dodgers and Angels because they are in different leagues and one has a much more distinguished and glorious history than the other. The rivalries you mentioned are all from teams who played each other often. That's why there's not much rivalry between, say, Oakland and SF. But, both the Angels and Dodgers spank the Giants anyways. The Angels recently beat the Giants in the WS and the Dodgers have loads of championship rings as compared to zero for the SF Giants.

Do you watch baseball at all? Sure the Angels won a championship, but the Giants have owned the NL West for the better part of the past 6 or 7 years. (Except the years the D-backs won it)

Uhh, I brought up ChiSox/Cubs and NYY/NYM. Those teams rarely play each other, not enough to warrant a rivalry, however most fans of one team generally couldn't give a shit about the other local team.

I'm not saying there has to be a rivalry between ANA/LA, but from my experiences on message boards and going to Anaheim and Los Angeles in the last couple years, it seems that there is no dividing line between ANA and LA fans. SoCal seems to be one of those areas where people just root for whatever team is doing best, regardless of who it is. If the Clippers suddenly because successful and the Lakers suck, you could bet on seeing Clipper flags all over the place and not Laker flags.

I've also had experience with the OAK/SF area and have seen that Oakland fans generally don't give a shit about SF and vice versa.

And BTW, the Dodgers don't spank the Giants. How many playoff appearances have the Dodgers made in the last 10 years? Shit, they haven't even really contended for a handful of years. But there will come a time where the Dodgers will become successful and the Angels will fade again. And watch -- the Dodgers will suddenly be the darlings of Southern California and the Angels will be an afterthought, rally monkey and all.

Hey...you are right...my bad...I was thinking of something else. What I meant was that there is a lot more history between those teams. The Angels have not been around nearly as much as the Dodgers.
