Have you seen the new stuff in the Metrodome? At least on TV, it looks like real grass. And the turf is filled with tiny rubber balls, presumably to make it softer to run on. Right now, every time a ball hits the turf hard, or a player dives, you see a cloud of these rubber balls bounce in the air. Eventually, the rubber will work it's way deeper into the turf so that it stays put.

But I wonder if it'll be any safer for the players in a situation like Dmitri's last night.
Yeah, that's Field Turf. Supposedly, it's the closest thing to grass, reducing rug burns, injures, and the concrete effect. Since field turf has the "give" similar to grass, caught spikes shouldn't be as big of an issue. It's been installed in several major facilities, and I can't find an instance of it causing severe injuries. Obviously, grass is the best surface, but the only intelligent thing to do at this point is to choose the next best alternative.

The other problem is that no teams, nor the league, require players to wear turf shoes on AstroTurf. Spikes are a huge no-no, but players use them for sure footing in the dirt surrounding the bases and plate.

Even I'm not that optimistic... Although with the strength of the rest of the division, 120-42 is not out of the question...

Floor six: Right-wing extremists, serial killers, lawyers who appear on television, and obnoxious Giants fans.

Wait til the Giants actually play a real team this weekend. We'll knock that smirk off your face but good!

well Bust...if the Red Sox played the O's for 162 games they'd be playing .500 ball.

if the Yanks played the Rays for 162 games they'd be playing .333 ball.

Kinda makes your retort seem foolish

Okay, will Koch blow another save today? Only 1-run lead for the Sox in the bottom of the 9th. Sounds like a strong possibility...

Koch didn't blow the save Monday -- he was only allowed to pitch to two hitters and he got one out before Guillen let Marte blow the save.

Koch looked pretty good, actually. Deep counts, but he did the job.

Scorcho is a closet Yankees fan. His love for the Yankees is only rivaled by his love for Kobe and the Lakers.

I was about ready to tell you off and tell you to F off, newb until I looked at your little note beneath your screen name and decided against mentioning the newb part.

Btw, you've been reported for the closet Yankees fan comment. You know that personal attacks aren't allowed here.

Nice defense mechanism. You can just go ahead and admit it. We all know it to be true.

I like how there is a 1 mph wind inside the TB stadium when you check the ESPN box score.

There is a good possibility that the wind is Tim McCarver-related.
