MLB Storylines youll follow this year?

besides your regular team.. what storylines interest you this year?

Bonds passing mayes and heading towards Ruth

Can a 200+ million dollar team come up short of a world series win?

Will the Braves finally miss winning their division for the first time in 13 years?

Will Griffey Jr be able to stay healthy and put together a solid season?

Will we have any players effected by the new thg bans and steroid testing?

How far will the Marlins slide?

Do the Cubs or Red Sox have a chance to break the jinx?

what other stories are you looking forward to this season? what records and milestones?

Greg Maddux should get his 300th win this season as well.. Too bad it won't be for the Braves.

Aren't the Braves your team?

As for me, I'm interested to see how close the battle for the AL East and NL Central will be. Should be really competitive.

How well will Maddux pitch for the Cubs?

Will the additional relief and starting pitching secure the Red Sox a World Series?

How far will the Braves fall without Maddux, Sheffield and Lopez?

How many imported Japanese players will hit home runs off Russ Ortiz on the first pitch they ever see?

You make baseball seem like wrestling with "storylines". All I really care about is seeing some crazy plays and seeing how various players do. Although I am an Orioles fan, I like to follow many players from many teams. As for the Orioles themselves, I hope they can reach .500. That's about it.

Will the Expos ever get a new home?
If the Cubs and Red Sox go to the World Series will the Earth spin out of orbit?
After that first game(wow!), will Kaz Matsui be the best Japanese player this year?
Will they intentionally walk Bonds with the bases loaded?
Will the Mariners actually trade for a decent bat this season or will they just get Jason Kendall?

Obviously, the Nomar/Pedro/Varitek/Lowe contract issues and how well the team plays through them.

Also, will Jeff Bagwell be able to make the final out for every Astros loss?

If the Royals faulter, how quickly will the Yankees make a move for Beltran?

Clemens/Pettitte in Minute Maid.

Prior's injury and the impact on the NL Central race.

Can the DRays go .500?

I will be following the Derek Jeter/Alex Rodgriguez love affair, which will culminate with a wedding during a trip to Boston.

I think you mean the Ivan Rodriguez/Ugueth Urbina love affair
Jeter and A-Rod will have a spat after A-Rod keeps fielding Jeter's position

Bonds passing Mays isn't really a huge deal to me...Afterall, he started the season just 2 HR shy of the mark - so it's not exactly a big surprise that he's going to pass Mays.

My big storyline this year is the same as always - Red Sox vs Yankees...but that includes my team.

Other things I'll be watching for:

- The Detroit Tigers to compete in the AL Central...it's a weak division, and they have a strong lineup. If Pudge can keep the pitching staff in control, they have a chance to make some noise in that division.

- Where will Kris Benson end up? I'm a long time Pirates fan as well as a Red Sox fan...Ever since Benson was drafted by the Pirates, I've been high on his bandwagon. I still truly believe he has the stuff to be an ace. Once he wins a few games this year, the Pirates will undoubtedly dump him and his contract off. Rumors have been floating around that the Red Sox and Yankees have shown interest - I'd love to see Benson as the #5 starter for the Sox.

- The AL Wild Card race. I do believe that the AL Wild Card has to come out of the AL West. Anaheim, Oakland or Seattle...even Texas is starting to creep back into that race with all the great young hitters they have now. With the Wild Card coming from the West, the Yankees could very well miss the playoffs entirely this year. (admittedly, a very biased opinion. )

- The NL East race. This division is really wide open...I think every team has a legitimate shot of winning this division. Everybody seems to think Philly has it locked up already, but I disagree...I don't see a clear cut favorite. Even the Mets could challenge this year, especially if Glavine returns to Cy Young form.

- Clemens pitching and batting against Piazza and the Mets. I know it's been done before, but I don't think it's over...In fact, Clemens just batting in every game he starts could be a big deal. We might even see something happen tonight against San Francisco in retaliation for plunking Bonds 2 years ago.

God, I'm glad baseball is back!

The real question is whether pitchers will pitch to Barry enough to give him a realistic shot at 714. 55 more to go.

That is really the only storyline I'll keep my eye on until the playoffs.

MLB is dicking around with DC - playing a game of chicken: have stadium funding and then we'll consider you, while DC says award the team and we'll put the funding in place. They had an interesting idea on local sportstalk here - a good way to force MLB to make a decision one way or the other - say that you are going to tear down RFK Stadium (which would be the interim home for 2 seasons). Therefore, MLB would be forced to quickly make a decision on DC instead of dragging their feet like they have for 2 years.

the other night.. they were pointing out that this years giants team sucks so much, that bonds will get alot of chances to hit.. because he will be playing in games that they are trailing by multiple runs regularly

on the same note.. teams like to walk bonds when they have a decent lead.. to keep from having a spark lit by his homeruns
