Bengals Unveil New Logo, New Unis Coming 4/22

The Bengals unveiled a new primary logo, a block B with signature orange-and-black stripes, and announced that they will unveil new uniforms on April 22.

The long-anticipated change will not include any alteration of the distinctive striped helmets. The block B joins the helmet, Bengal head and leaping tiger as team logos. Coach Marvin Lewis called the uniform redesign "not radical" but a "little more than subtle." The new uniforms are "predicated on movement, speed and energy," he said.

The block B will be on the new uniforms, the first change the team has made since 1997, when the leaping tiger was added to sleeves and sock color was changed from orange to black.

The new primary logo has already replaced the tiger head logo on the NFL.com homepage navigation bar:

Also, though the team insists the helmets aren't being changed, take a look at what's sitting on the shelf behind Marvin Lewis during an interview that aired on NFL Network....

It was a couple of weeks back, but I couldn't find anything recent when I searched on "Bengal" "Bengals" and "Cincinnati". I'll go look again.... (It's easy enough to kill off a duplicate thread, after all)

This isnt really a duplicate thread. The other mention was lost in about 15 pages of NFL off season moves.

Besides, this is the perfect oppurtunity to once again say that it looks like shit.

Here are the search results of Bengals logo crap.

I do think the new helmet would be an improvement, though. If it is indeed true.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the seemingly hyper-generic striped "B" logo, and I really like the unis the way they are.... I'm not looking forward to 4/22, but maybe I'll be surprised.

Which is an improvement over their old logo, which screamed the word "BENGALS".

Today's the day when the new unis get unveiled. I don't know whether to dread this or not. The current striped unis were designed by Paul Brown prior to the 1981 season, and though it's undergone a few minor tweaks since then, it's remained basically unchanged. I really like the current striped design and the "flying tiger" accent patches on the shoulders:

I'm worried that they'll completely screw the design up by featuring the new striped B. Of course, it could go REALLY bad...

Oh, I dunno. I'm sorry to see the flying tiger go, but changing the sleeve to match the secondary color in the stripe pattern and rounding off the block numerals is fine. Not sure I'm a big fan of the black pants yet, but since the tiger striping is now wider and tri-colored... yeah, it's okay.

New Uni Photo Gallery

It could've been a LOT worse...
