Memphis Grizzlies

What do you think of their playoff chances? They're making a push for a top-four seed now, and have the best record in the NBA over the last few months.

They don't have a true star player (Gasol comes closest), but they've been playing with a lot of confidence.

Also, they have very little playoff experience on their roster, but are not burdened by expectations. They are already well ahead of where everyone thought they would be this season.

Jerry West has done a great job (as usual) for them. I think they might get to the second round, but then fall short. Nobody wants to play them, that is for sure. They remind me of how the Kings were exceeding expectations that year when they took the Jazz to the brink of elimination.

I'd call Williams a star player before Gasol. Or even Wells.

In terms of playoff experience, they do have JWill and Wells.

They should be a fun team to watch come playoff time.

I dunno, Gasol has been the prime scorer for them this year. he creates a lot of mismatches at his position. Williams can be good, but he's not that consistent. Wells is a solid 6th man player, like Jamison in Dallas.

The real spark has been James Posey. I think there's a legitimate chance that they could make the conference finals.

I just don't see them beating one of Sac/SAS/Minn/LAL in the first round.

That was a crazy game last night.

Unfortunately, they won. And so did the T'wolves.

I hear ya. Normally Yao hits that shot too. The Rockets match up pretty well with the T'wolves. If they meet up in the playoffs, I think the Rockets can take them.

I do not think Memphis is ready to break into the top 4 of the West yet. But, they will give someone a tough series.

The Griz are 2-1 against both San Antonio and The Lakers, 2-2 against the Kings, and 1-1 against the TWolves. They are more than capable of bringing the pain to whoever.

I think that Memphis will be like the Phoenix of last season where they go up against one of the top teams and just give them fits all throughout the series. I don't think that Memphis will win but they'll make it tough.

That's regular season. Things are totally different in the playoffs, when the good teams give a crap.

Yeah, and Golden State has beaten all of those teams as well. Doesn't mean you'd pick the Warriors in a playoff series.

It's too bad for Memphis that they can't get a Dallas series. That'd be the best possible scenario for them. They could beat Dallas.

I'll root for anybody who wants to stick it to the Lakers Go Jerry go!
I think it's too bad all this happened after they left Vancouver. If they could've just hired Hubie Brown while they were up there they probably wouldn't have had to move.

I think they'll do a lot better than most of you are giving them credit. Afer all, they have no expectations so they can play all out with their 10 person rotation and surprise teams that expect to be in the finals. The Grizzlies were just hoping to beat their old win record of 28 games. I'd say they surpassed their goals this season.

But they aren't going to surprise anyone. Every other team is fully aware of the way they have been playing lately, and will not take them lightly.

The Grizzlies have an advantage with their extremely deep rotation. They can throw fresh legs at you for 48 minutes a game.

Still, the Lakers will mow through everyone, unfortunately.

They're lookin good, but i agree with others in that they wouldn't be able to beat the Lakers, Kings, Spurs, or TWolves in a 7 game series. I don't think they could take on the Pacers or Pistons either. Personally, i think they're playing about as good as they can. I don't see them really getting very far in the playoffs or close to a championship without a superstar.

I think Mike Wilbon read your post last night, because today on PTI, he basically said the same thing you're saying.

Memphis will run into the same problem that Portland ran into a few years back.

Lots of decent players, no go-to guy.
