There have been quite a few relievers that come in during late innings and pitch more than one inning. Usually they are blowouts, so it's just a guy chewing up innings, but it happens more than you'd think.

.......anyone hit .400 again?

.......Tampa Bay not finish last in the AL East or get 70+ wins. (6 yrs in the league, neither hasn't happened yet)?

.......a team based outside of the continental USA or Canada?

.......the Yankees not have the highest payroll in baseball? (probably not as long as George owns the team)

and just for dvd-4-life:

........teams get smart and bring in the closer best relief pitcher when the game is _really_ on the line, instead of holding him back until the top of the 9th?

Should the title be changed to "Will we ever see in baseball __________ again?"

I'm sure there have been years, probably not all that long ago that the Yankees didn't have the highest payroll. Anyone know any numbers or where to find them? I wonder when the last time was...

1992-1995 for MLB. Yankees on top all of those years.

Well, that takes care of about 2% of the possible years.

You're welcome for finding those. Google is your friend.

Honestly, I don't think they kept the payroll stats like the started to in the 90's. I'll see what I can find. But you can't honestly think they weren't at the top of the list in every other season before it.

I don't think we'll ever see that or see anyone get close to hitting .400 again. Damn the strike of '94, damn it to hell

Well, until proven otherwise, I don't think it's unreasonable to believe there have been years where they didn't have the highest payroll. George hasn't always been the owner, and the Dodgers and Giants used to be just as big in NY as the Yankees.

Maybe and maybe not. I can't find anything on the internet to prove or disprove that statement. I'm sure if someone had a baseball almanac, they could find that information.

Well OF COURSE the Yankees haven't always had the highest payroll in baseball. I can tell you that information, but what's the point. That isn't the question. The first word in the question is WILL, which indicates future events.

Typical response of you. Never addressing the issues.

From DarkElf's post, they are #1 in 23/34 seasons listed. That's about 68% of the seasons that were listed, they were on top. I'm sure if we went back to the 70's and 60's, they'd be right there on top as well. Open your eyes, man.

That's the issue I was addressing. Typical of you to avoid the embarrasment of being proven wrong. You're getting pretty good at it though. It must be all that practice.

I only see 3 seasons that they weren't near or at the top of the list. 1990-1992.

Wow, let's argue semantics when you want to avoid the issue because you don't really have an argument at all!

You have an odd way of admitting you were wrong, but I'll accept it.
