Chicago media has been saying that since last week. Of course, it was more of a speculation at that time, since the Cubs still maintained that Prior will return by April 8...

there's the thread.

I've had growing concerns w/ him the farther into spring training it got. I was saying to someone last week that there was no way he'd open the season. Looks like he's gone for at least a month or so.

Being a white sox fan this news just puts a smile on my face. All this media coverage for the cubs and nothing for the Sox really makes me sick.

Interesting. The Cubs are no guarantee to make the playoffs, so every Prior start would help, but it's best to be overcautious. It may even give a nice rest to his arm, which was worked pretty hard last year. Still, once the season gets going it will be tough to keep him off the field.

Even without Prior, the Cubs remaining starters are still pretty strong.

The Cubs are strong in pitching, but Prior is their #1. This will hurt, but hopefully not too much. Better to let me recuperate, rather then rushing him back only to be ineffective. Heck, let him get in a start or two in AAA to warm up.

This helps even make my prediction that the cubs will not make the playoffs(said it months ago, before they signed maddux) a lot more realistic. Houston will win the division, and the cubs will not win the wild card.

There is now speculations that the Cubs will be overly cautious with Prior, and he may not be back on the bump until early May. With another month or so required to get in pitching form, there is a chance that Prior may not start any games until early or mid-June...

I'm saying worse case scenario is that he'll never play again.

.. and Chicago fans riot and somehow Jack Bauer has to get involved to stop a full-fledged civil war.

Well, take out one of the best players on the team and it makes it much harder for the team to win, but I still feel they will make a strong run at the playoffs, they didn't have Prior last year for a bit of time...and believe their team is much better this year. But time will tell.

In the end at least the White Sox still blow.

Cubs will still win the division by a few games.

Houston is a paper tiger with an aging roster that will not be helped by 40+ Roger Clemens and Andy (let's see how many games he wins without the NYY behind him) Pettite. That smokin' 4.02 ERA isn't going to cut it in the NL (where it will probably be closer to 4.4)

Stack it up, position by position, compare average, HR RBI and AGE and you'll see who the better team is.

The pitching staff is still pretty young, though with Oswalt and Miller.

It's all bullshit right now. In the end, all that matters is who wins the most games of the 162 to be played. Right now, even the Pirates, Brewers, and Reds are in First Place.

Let's Play Ball for ****'s sake.

Amen.

Andy, did you see that Bush is throwing out the first pitch at Busch on Monday? I don't know if that is a good omen or a bad one - guess we'll have to wait and see.

These Cubs and Astros' fans keep discounting the Cardinals.

Yes, I did. It would be interesting to see what security's like.

That's what I said when I first heard about it. I wouldn't even try bringing a bag to the ballpark.
