One interesting name to look out for in FA is Adawale Ogunlye of the Dolphins... was one of the best DEs in the NFL in 2003 and is an RFA... Dolphins are going to put the highest tender on him (so any team signing him would have to give up 1st and 3rd round picks) and don't have the cap room to match offers he gets. Good chance he'll get some interest, especially from some tams needing DL help at the bottom of round 1 (like the Eagles)

Also noteworthy is that the salary cup will jump to $80.5 million, which is up about $5 million from last year.

Man, I hope Champ can get out of Washington. I would absolutely love to see him in Detroit with his little brother, who I think will be a solid LB in the years to come. Great family, great guys - they should be together and then wait for their other brother to move to Detroit.

It will be very interesting to see what happens in Indy. The Colts and Manning are apparently far apart and the qualifying offer on the franchise tag for a QB is a whoping $10M! If the Colts franchise Manning, it basically cripples them in free agency.

Wow - it is worse for Indy that what I thought (above). Acc'd to Len Pasquerelli:

If the Colts are forced to apply the franchise tag to Manning, the co-most valuable player for the 2003 season, it will certainly be a pricey marker. The franchise label typically represents a one-year qualifying offer at the average of the five highest cap numbers for players at a given position. But because Manning already had a 2003 salary cap number considerably higher than the qualifying offer for a franchise quarterback, he will carry a cap charge of $18.3 million if the Colts tag him.

I will be crushed if Taylor isn't drafted by Detroit, especially if it's because Detroit traded the pick. It's a buyer's market this year for CB's - don't go crazy going after Champ (admittedly the best of the potential list of available CB's)

My feelings exactly....don't get me wrong, having Champ would be awesome, and with Bly give them one of, if not the, best cb tandem in the league. But Taylor is just as talented, and younger, and they just need too much to give up 1st and 2nd round picks plus another player or pick.

speaking of CBs, what's the word on Charles Woodson and Chris McAlister?

A few others of note that may be available:

Shawn Springs (SEA)
Bobby Taylor (PHI)
Troy Vincent (PHI)
Ahmed Plummer (SF)
Mario Edwards (DAL)
Darrius Johnson (KC)

There's also some talk that Sam Madison (Dolphins CB) may be on the block for the right price.

The Ravens will almost certainly franchise McAllister and then try to work out a long-term deal.

He most certainly could be, though you can't fully compare them because they play different positions...but the kid is a stud, and will be an all-pro Safety within a couple of years....

I hope the Lions get Champ Bailey, I don't know about trading that #6 overall for Champ though, who's hands down one of the best CBs in the NFL and is only 25, you almost have to go after him. In a perfect world Detroit could give up a first rounder next year and take Sean Taylor -(imagine that D!) You're right though brizz, the Lions just have way too many needs.

Warren Sapp and Terrell Owens are the big Free Agents this year and the way it's looking neither of them want to be where they're at now.

Dolphins get the first (veteran QB) acquisition they wanted to make this spring. Next commes the second (young QB)

INDIANAPOLIS - The Dolphins concluded a busy week of searching for a quarterback when they reached an agreement to trade for Philadelphia restricted free agent quarterback A.J. Feeley on Saturday, according to two NFL sources.

The Dolphins reached the agreement quickly after failing in a last-ditch attempt to acquire Mark Brunell from Jacksonville, who agreed to a trade to Washington. Miami was then rebuffed by Washington in an attempt to trade for Redskins backup Patrick Ramsey.

That left the team with Feeley as the next-best option. The deal came together quickly Saturday. As of Friday night, the teams hadn't had serious discussions about a trade.

Feeley was 4-1 as a starter in 2002 when subbing for an injured Donovan McNabb. The Dolphins had talked to Philadelphia in late January about Feeley's availability.

The Eagles have been resolved to the fact they would have to trade Feeley or risk losing him after the 2004 season as an unrestricted free agent. Philadelphia had planned to offer Feeley a one-year tender that would give them a first-round pick in return if another team signed him.

However, an Eagles source said the team was willing to accept less in exchange in trade for Feeley, who was a fifth-round pick in 2001 from Oregon. While at Oregon, Feeley was a starter before being injured and eventually losing his job to eventual first-round draft pick Joey Harrington.

Charles Woodson is now franchise tagged.

http://www.raiders.com/newsroom/news...l.jsp?id=10788

"The Oakland Raiders designated cornerback Charles Woodson their franchise player.
By placing the franchise tag on Woodson, the Raiders will tender a minimum of the average salary of the top five cornerbacks in the National Football League or 120 percent of his previous year's salary, whichever is greater. The Raiders are offering the exclusive tender, which gives the team sole negotiating rights with Woodson.

"Placing this designation on Charles allows that he will remain with the Raiders next year," said Raiders Head Coach Norv Turner. "Hopefully we can enter into a long term deal in the future which will allow Charles to be a Raider for many years to come. I'm looking forward to working with Charles as well as the entire team."

Woodson was originally selected by the Raiders in the first round (fourth overall pick) of the 1998 NFL Draft. Woodson, 27, is a four-time Pro Bowler."

'Skins play it fast and loose. There's a franchise I'm growing to hate. They ****ed with the Jets, too. They took one good team (the Jets) and one bad team (the Skins) in 2002 and made them into two fairly bad teams in 2003.

Feely is only 26. He was a great QB in college, and did very well in relief work in Philly. He's very much a Jake Delhomme candidate in my mind -- good size (6-3), good arm, hasn't gotten a lot of playing time.

Why would the Dolphins go after another college QB? Maybe spend a 4th round choice or worse on Losman or Schaub just as insurance... but I think Feely could be the answer for the Dolphins, especially if they can pick up another veteran QB somewhere down the line. (I could see Rick Gannon filling this role perfectly for them.)
