Is there any reason why local announcers can't do NFL games. I hate almost all the national guys. I don't understand why local guys cant do the game for the local market and national guys can do the same game for all the other markets that the game will be shown in. They do that for radio, why not tv?

Why don't you just do what I do. When I watch Redskins games on tv at home, I turn down the TV sound and turn on the local radio broadcast featuring Frank Herzog, Sonny Jurgensen and Sam Huff.

Yeah, I could do that, but I was just curious as to why there were no local guys like every other sport.

I wonder if the blackout rules have anything to do with this. For some teams, local announcers may only call a few games a season.

That sounds like a good theory. But they would at least do all of the away games, right?

Because football is the only sport where all regular season games are broadcast on national networks. They sell all regular season games as a collective product to the national networks rather than just some games like every other sport does.

The local affiliate isn't the one broadcasting the game. When ESPN broadcast your favorite baseball team's games they use their own announcers. You only get local announcers on a local broadcast.

I used to do that but it got a little bit annoying because I could always hear what happened before it happened on the television, due to the delay.
