Martina Hingis: no comeback planned

Bad news, not just for those who favor the eye-candy of the women's tour, but for those who like to see an actual women perform well in her sport..

Yeah - it is a shame that the man-beasts have taken over women's tennis.

That sucks. With her out, that pretty much ends the era of graceful tennis and pretty much ends my interest in the sport.

She was the main reason I watached the WTA as well. And I'll echo what das just said. Shame she couldnt get over the injury.

In a way it sucks, 'cause she was talented and sorta hot. On the other hand she was one of the biggest crybabies I've ever seen on the court.

100% agreement, though there is some hope with Justine Henin. A Henin/Hingis matchup, provided Hingis is healthy, would be fun to watch.

This just opens the door for more of the Williams brothers' dominance.

She reminds me a little of Natalie Portman (facially) in some respects. Nice buns.

It seemed like she came and went so quick. Her and Venus Williams came along at about the same time, but she quickly became dominant. And she had her run, and then injuries and the Williams took over. Was hoping for a little more rivalries, or a dominant career like Steffi Graf.

Big Hingis fan here, but you have to admit she rose to dominance at a pretty weak point in women's tennis. Seles was still injured, Graf was sliding, Davenport was still too fat, Capriati was "elsewhere", and the Williams duo wasn't around.

But when healthy, she was a joy to watch. She's far too young for her to be finished. Too bad.

Although a gifted player in terms of court sense, anticipation, and shot making, Hingis never showed any real drive to improve her game when the power players came along. Although she claimed that she was spending more time in the gym, I did not see that translated onto the court in the past 2-3 years, granted she was injured a lot. Her serve did not improve, she still put too much topspin in her forehand when she needed to flaten it out more in order to get more power, etc... Personally, I think she should have dumped her mom as a coach years ago and hired me.

I agree with everything you said except hiring you as coach. It should be me

It's a sad loss for fans of old-fashioned finesse tennis, but the game has changed in the last few years and she didn't adapt like some had hoped. The game will go on and we will eventually see someone outplay the Sisters Williams.

to Justine Henin, too.

ouch!

What a drag Hingis was fun to watch.

The "Big-Serve" dominated men's game drove me to watch the Women's game.

I guess now I'll have to start attending High School tennis matches.
