San Fran 49ers at Tampa Bay Bucs Div Playoff Thread

Current Odds:
San Fran +5.5
39 1/2 o/u
Money Line: San Fran. (+210), Tampa Bay (-270)

I think the Bucs have a lot going for them in this game. They get a team who must be exhausted traveling all the way across the country to play them. Ray Jay offers a big HFA for the Bucs. Brad Johnson is back for the Bucs who makes all the difference in the world for their offense. The Bucs defense is on a roll and they know how to defend teams with mobile QBs - they have a lot of practice.

For those picking San Fran to win straight up, keep in mind that under the current playoff system, which has been in place since 1990, there have been 24 NFC Divisional Playoff games. In those games, the home team coming off the bye week is 22-2.

The Bucs' defense is strong and Brad Johnson is back.

I'm afraid the 49ers will be beaten by the Bucs 28-17.

Quick analysis:

Although the Niners defense has holes, I think they'll be able to stop the Bucs and their very pedestrian offense. Even WITH Brad Johnson healthy, they aren't exactly a team with dangerous offensive weapons.

If the Niners can take an early lead, the Bucs will be in trouble trying to come back.

I think that the Niners have a better chance of winning this game than they did of winning against a hot Giants team last week. Sorry Tampa Bay, but your offense is just too weak, even against the Niners' pathetic excuse of a defense.

On the other side of the ball, although the Buc's defense is awesome, I don't know if anyone can stop Terrell Owens right now. Too many weapons for the Niners - especially if Hearst and Barlow can get going. Eric Johnson is becoming a threat too - more catches and more yards than Jeremey Shockey last week, even though he had less TDs - a very overlooked stat.
