Who Deserves Entrance into the MLB Hall Today?

Here's what I'd vote for... not necessarily what will happen. There are a lot of deserving names on the ballot today.

Eddie Murray
Gary Carter
Rich Gossage
Alan Trammell
Ryne Sandberg
Bert Blyleven
Andre Dawson

No matter what anyone says, Trammell deserves to be in. Compared to many other HOF SS's, I gotta believe he's worthy. I'd take him over Ozzie Smith...

edit: typo in thread title. That's what I get for doing two things at once.

Eddie Murray is the absolute no-brainer. I plan on making my preparations to go to HOF weekened right after I hear the voting results.

Carter, Blyleven, Sutter and Gossage also would appear on my ballot.

Sandberg and Jack Morris are also on my radar and are borderline. When a guy is borderline, I err on the side of caution and do not support their entry. I suppose I could be convinced at a later time.

Another reason why I am making the trip there this summer (first time) - to see the Hall before Budinski reinstates Rose in a PC move with the fans.

As I said in the other thread, Murray and Carter (though Murray is the biggest no-brainer in recent memory).

Murray - and I would guess his induction speech will be the shortest ever

Carter

Another vote for Murray is a no-brainer. Ryno should get in but I don't think he's a first ballot guy. I think it's going to be a close for the rest of them.

I think Ryno will definitely be in on first ballot.

I expect Eddie Murray, Ryno and maybe Gary Carter. Anyone else will be a surprise.

I think it is doubtful since there are already 3 people ahead of him who did not get in.

Out of the 1st time candidates next year (Joe Carter, Dennis Eckersley, Jimmy Key, Dennis Martinez, Paul Molitor, Tom Pagnozzi, Terry Pendleton, Juan Samuel, Bob Tewksbury), only Eckersley and Molitor will receive serious consideration.

Carter should've been in a few years ago. In any case, I'm happy to see he's in now.

I'm ecstatic over Carter getting the vote. Now he doesn't have to campaign for himself anymore, and I don't have to hear it. I know he deserves it, but there's only so much "Let me in, let me in!!" that I can take from a HOF candidate.

Evidently 15% of the people don't think that Eddie Murray is a Hall of Famer

Voters who think that someone shouldn't get in just because it is their first time on the ballot shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Keep in mind that Eddie rubbed a number of writers the wrong way, particularly in his heyday. Certainly, this should not hold any relevance to his entry but I would bet there was more than a writer or 2 who did not vote for him because of some kind of grudge.

I'm fairly certain it had more to do with his reticence with the media during his career.

At a minimum, there are 73 (max 80) people who should be shot in the face for their votes.

More on Ryno - Considering he got less than 50%, I don't see any shot of him getting in next year. I think Molitor is very likely to get in (I would vote for him) and Eckersley might get in (I would vote for him too). Sutter, Rice, and Dawson are unlikely to get in as well. Too many votes to make up.

What Ryno does need to do though is siphon away votes from guys like Rice & Dawson. He has a shot in 2005 (Boggs is the only serious candidate) and he really has a shot in 2006 where there are no serious contenders.

If Ryno or these other guys do not get in by 2006, that may be it for them. 2007 is the year of Ripken/McGwire/Gwynn.

The thing that hurts Ryno is that he was the best 2nd baseman after Joe Morgan, who might be the best 2nd baseman ever. That is the guy he gets compared to. He should be compared to the average HOF 2nd baseman.

This voting continues to be a joke when someone actually votes for guys like Danny Tartabull. That person should get his voting rights rescinded. Sigh, another shaft for Alan Trammell.

Trammell got 14%? Who are these people kidding? He's got to be in the top 10 shortstops in the history of baseball and he only received 14%!? He's the friggin' reason Jack Morris won all those games that caused 22% to vote for him!

...better yet, how did Lou Whitaker not even get 5% of the vote last year to be on this ballot? Keith Hernandez is still there after all... I think only because he appeared on Seinfeld though.

I think that is how Danny Tartabull got a vote.
