NFL Playoffs - Giants @ 49ers - 01/05/02
Winner gets to travel to Tampa Bay to play the Bucs.

My quickie preview:

Although the Niners are favored, a lot of people in the media have been picking the Giants to win this one. 6 of 8 of the analysts on ESPN.com and 3 of 3 analysts for Yahoo Sports pick the Giants to "upset" the Niners in fact. Probably due to the fact that the Niners crapped their pants in the 4th quarter against the Rams with their 2nd and 3rd stringers in there. And because New York has been playing so well, especially with Tiki Barber and Shockey.

Anyway, I must admit that although I am biased for the Niners, they have struggled this year. Sometimes on offense (especially in the red zone), but especially on defense in their secondary. I blame Garcia mostly, but he has done alright despite having limited passing skills beyond a short passing game. :)

Their run defense is okay, but they don't pressure opposing QBs enough and their cornerbacks, especially Mike Rumph, get burned. Rumph will be starting in place of injured Jason Webster on Sunday, so look for Kerry Collins to throw his way, especially if he gets matched up against Amani Toomer.

My pick: Niners by 7. Although Mike Rumph will be burned consistently.

Go Niners!

I wonder who the NFL sack leader is ... oh look, it's Michael Strahan!!

If Owens gets 8 catches, the niners will cruise.

Niners should win this one. Giants anemic offense and Niners lethargic secondary should make this close game. I'll stick with the Niners offense to win this game.
