Jan. 4, The Fiesta Bowl, for all the marbles.

Ohio State

Vs.

Miami

What will happen: A shocker. If, IF, Clarett doesn't get knocked out and Will Smith and Darrion Scott get pressure on Dorsey, then OSU will win. Ohio State has the perfect type of team to beat Miami, or will at least keep this close. To stay with the Canes, you need great special teams, a pounding running game, and a strong defense. No one has a better kicking game than OSU, Clarett might be the best back in America when healthy, and the defense number two in the country in scoring defense. There's no question that Miami has the heart of a champion, and it might be ridiculous to question Ken Dorsey in a big game, but this isn't the same Miami team of last year. The OSU defense will come up with a 2001 Oklahoma Orange Bowl/Alabama in the 1993 Sugar Bowl performance, and the Buckeyes will be national champions.
CFN Prediction: Ohio State 20 ... Miami 17

I think Miami wins it, 31-17.

I agree that OSU matches up well against Miami. And I think they will probably play as well or dominate almost every down. But from what I've seen this year, the thing that sets Miami apart from everyone else is the big play ability. They'll return a kick all the way, or get a big blast down the sidelines and deflate another team that just had a 14 play, 80 yard drive.

I personally think that Ohio State will beat Miami. I know about Miami's talent level, but I don't feel that Ohio State is getting enough credit.

If anyone can beat Miami (when they're trying), it's Ohio State; however, I don't believe they will. It will be close for most of the game, but I think Miami will get that one big 70 yd pass play at the right moment to win this thing. There's no question they're not the same dominant force they were last year, but I still think when they play like they want it, no one can beat them.

I think they *can* beat Miami, and thus they are worthy of picking with the upset win in the media. I mean, it makes a better story than "Miami to roll again."

I got in on Ohio State when it was at 13.5 - knowing my luck, expect the Canes to win by 14.

I picked OSU to win as well, and I am mostly just hoping for a good game.....but i have a sneaking suspicion that it'll be close through the half, and then Miami will make the 4th quarter all but unnecessary.....here's hoping i'm wrong

I tend to agree.

This game reminds me so much of the following perceived bowl mismatches of the recent past where the so-called inferior teams, which stressed running and defense, pulled the upset over the high octane flashy teams:

'86 Miami - PSU
'92 Miami - Bama
'00 FSU - Oklahoma

If Ohio State beats Miami, I'll never post again on DVD Talk. That's how sure I am that OSU doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of beating Miami.

But how do you really feel about this game, classicman???

Just quoting it so he can't change it later...

I don't intend to change it.

There's an OSU in the Big XVII that would have a better chance of beating Miami than the OSU of the Big 10.

OSU has talent. But Miami is in a class all its own. The winning streak hits 35.

I figure that the game will be close at the half... the teams will trade TDs, Miami hits a FG at the end of the half. Miami 10, OSU 7 at the half, and the pundits get to talk about how OSU is holding down the vaunted Miami offense...

Then Miami turns it up. 21 3rd quarter points to make it 31-7 and turn it into a rout. Miami hits a FG early in the 4th to make it 34-7, and OSU gets a garbage time TD.

Miami 34, OSU 14.

People said the exact same things about Nebraska last year that they're saying about OSU this year. And look what happened to the Cornhuskers.
