Who would YOU rather have: Bryant or McGrady?

Of these two superstar players, who would you rather have on your team? Reason?

Well, on my fantasy team, I have McGrady but if I were greedy (and I am), I'd take both. However, I think that McGrady is more conducive to the team game whereas Kobe will still get into battles against other offensive players at the cost of his team's offensive flow. But, IIRC those situations have been pretty rare lately, except for his matchups against Tracy.

That and Kobe's shoes were just ugly. C'mon, how could he approve those ugly boxy things?

For both fantasy sports as well as in real life I would take T-Mac no question about it.

What prompted my question was this ESPN article:
http://espn.go.com/page2/s/rosen/021224.html

Ignoring any niceties of salary-cap considerations, the problem here is getting equal talent value. Tracy McGrady isn't nearly as good as Bryant
That line sure made my eyes widen ...

Kobe hands down. He wants to be the best. Mcgrady IMO is just holding on to the cash cow. But i don't watch any Orlando BB.

McGrady, I think he is a better player. I think he is still improving too.

McGrady.

As said above, he's more conducive to the team game.

He hasn't caused a single problem since he's been in Orlando. No bitching about not getting the ball enough, no bitching at team mates, etc. At least not that's been made public.

T-Mac. Much more complete player. Kobe is pretty damn good though.

McGrady - probably the best all-around player in the NBA right now.

I'd probably take Bryant. He'd have to go into decontamination for a few years to get rid of the stench of the Lakers, but I think he's probably the most talented player in the league. I think people forget that he's playing in a system designed around Shaq. You get him out of that environment and build a team around him, and I think he'd shine even more. Nothing against McGrady ... he's damn good too ... I just thing Kobe gives yoiu a little bit more. Perhaps the tie-breaker for me is how clutch Kobe has been in some really bad times for his team. He has that fire that Jordan (and others) have to step his game up to another level in the 4th quarter of big games.

However, I don't think either of these guys is near their peak, so who knows how they'll continue to grow.

Man, I swear I respoded to this thread earlier. Maybe I responded in another thread instead (if so, oops!)

I also read that article and then saw this thread, which is what I thought it was about.

I'd rate the two fairly equal, but the deciding point for me is McGrady's back. For that reason I'd take Kobe.

I picked McGrady, because I think he is a better team player, but mostly because I can't stand Kobe and I don't think I can bring myself to vote for him in anything...at all.

Complete agreement. I absolutely hate Kobe. I am not blinded by my dislike of him to deny his awesome ability, but his level of cockiness really irritates me. I know that most NBA players are cocky, but Kobe is too much. I saw a game last week where he couldn't throw the ball in the ocean. He finally made a couple of shots in a row and the opposing team called a timeout. Kobe strutted back to the bench shaking his head no, as in no one can guard me. It's too bad that there aren't more players like Tim Duncan and Jason Kidd in the league that kick ass and don't have much attitude about them. Back on topic, I'll take T-Mac.

T-Mac is Faster, a more consistent defender and is a better shooter.

Kobe is Stronger, more aggressive (sometimes to a fault) and better at getting to the basket.

Personally I'd take Mcgrady. Unlike Kobe he has shown that he can do it all by himself. Attitude aside Kobe makes a lot of mental mistakes that someone playing in the league as long as he has shouldnt make.

Unless you are saying Shaq and the rest of his teamates in those years sucked then that point is moot.

Watch the games again my friend and you will see he has always been clutch and was a big help in those 3 championship runs. So how can the point be moot?

because it can easily be assumed that if mcgrady was in bryants placed on that team, with that surrounding cast.. he would have the same jewelry
