Maddux accepts salary arbitration from Braves

Maddux
Millwood
Ortiz
Hampton
Byrd

That'll be a hell of a starting lineup if they keep them all, which I think they will. I think Marquis is the odd man out, they'll likely bundle him with Giles and/or some prospects to get another bat, hopefully at first base.

Wonder how much AOL will piss their pants when Maddux gets ~$20 million in arbitration. Rumors are circulating that either Millwood or Ortiz could be traded to the Cardinals for Fernando Vina. I'm hoping that doesn't happen.

I'd love to have Maquis in exchange for Fick.

Fick will give Atl a decent 1B bat.

Now that Maddux will take arbitration, I'm hearing talk that the Braves might turn around and deal Ortiz for a quality 1B.

Hmm. How about Tino Martinez?

God no...not the 39 yr old McGriff. We don't need him and his geriatric partner Franco on the payroll...

That will be just perfect. Now that McGriff has some Cubs experience in him ...

... I remember seeing a stat once, where from the two teams that make it to the World Series, the team with fewer ex-Cubs in its roster wins the WS like 80% of the time ...

Please, no Vina, no Martinez and no McGriff.

Giles and Derosa are more than adequate at second. I've never been much of a Vina fan.

Martinez and MCGriff are well past there primes and wouldn't be much of an improvement over the Franco combo.

And none of them are worth Ortiz.

AOL/Time Warner just needs to pay what it takes to win (i.e. keep all the pitchers except Marquis) or sell the team to someone who will.
