How did the BCS selection go?

Help me settle a bet:
(In order)
Fiesta- Miami & Ohio St.
Orange- Iowa (because they lost Miami (Big East) which is higher ranked than Ohio St.)
Rose- Oklahoma (because they lost Ohio St (Big 10))
Sugar- Georgia
Orange- USC
Sugar- Florida St.

*Rose- Wash. St. automatically because they were PAC 10 champs.

Is that correct? If so, why didn't Rose choose Georgia which was the higher ranked team? Regional considerations and OK draws bigger crowds and more $$?

Also, could USC been shafted from a BCS? No, right? Because they were ranked 4th in BCS and Georgia had automatic berth because they were SEC champ.

Technically, it probably went like that, but you have to switch USC and Georgia (actually, you can take UGA out of it completely, since they're contractually tied to the Sugar as SEC Champs). Orange got to go ahead in line since they have a higher payout than the Sugar (allowed to do that once every 4 years)

Rose didn't choose UGA because UGA is tied to the Sugar.

And no, USC could not have been shafted, since they were ranked #4 (and were the highest ranked non-conference winner)

Re: How did the BCS selection go?

Ok so:
(In order)
Fiesta- Miami & Ohio St.
Orange- Iowa (because they lost Miami (Big East) which is higher ranked than Ohio St.)
Rose- Oklahoma (because they lost Ohio St (Big 10))
Orange- USC
Sugar- Florida St.

*Rose- Wash. St. automatically because they were PAC 10 champs.
*Sugar-Georgia SEC champs

Could Rose have chosen USC?

Rose could have chosen USC, yes, since they had the automatic 2nd choice.

In order:

Fiesta: Miami & Ohio State / Rose: Washington State / Sugar: Georgia ... all automatic

Orange: Iowa
Rose: Oklahoma
Orange: USC
Sugar: F$U

So, yeah, you have it right.

Orange taking Iowa is pretty clear. Rose didn't want USC since it's a rematch game and it's in state killing the out-of-state revenue, and no one wanted to get stuck with F$U, so they took Oklahoma. Orange jumped on the opportunity to get the USC vs. Iowa game, and Sugar got stuck with F$U ... oddly enough the best ratings-friendly match-up for each of those two teams.

I'm pretty pleased about them picking Oklahoma to go to the Rose Bowl.

They said on the radio that by 4:00, over 20,000 tickets were sold already. We usually travel pretty well, and this is the first time that we've been to the Rose Bowl.

It's going to be a long wait.

And rightly so, I think. Iowa should be in the Rose Bowl --- there's just something not right about them being in the Orange Bowl, but I think they will take care of USC anyway.

I know there are many traditionalists in the Big-10 and Pac-10, but to me, the bowls are in large part to provide unlikely match-ups in unlikely places. As I've often said, I look to the bowls as more an exhibition than a postseason. I can appreciate how Iowa fans are upset that they don't get to go to the Rose Bowl, but at the same time, I like the idea of seeing unlikely teams play out in Pasadena.
