who will the next coach at bama be?

since fran left for aTm, there is a vacancy..
which coach is going to come in and take over this team, that is under ncaa sanctions
with rumors of more problems to come?

although, despite this, they still stayed in the top 10 most of this season

we all know bama gets too much respect.. starts each season ranked too high.. gets the better bowl games (when eligible).. etc..

but Im curious who everyone thinks they will get as their next coach

What about Marvin Lewis? Could you have a black head coach at Bama? I assume that he is the frontrunner at Mich State but Alabama is obviously a more prestigious and lucrative job.

A natural fit would be Dennis Erickson.

yep... but considering bama has the same type of history, they are almost as big of 'media darlings' as ND. the big difference is the nbc contract

While Notre Dame often gets higher preference in bowl selections, they're very rarely ranked higher than they've earned.

Anyway, to the question at hand. This is Bama we're talking about. Call the FBI and see who's being investigated for major corporate fraud right now ... expect them to choose from one of those guys. They need guys good at cooking books and looking the other way.

My nightmare scenario (just for fun):

Bobby Bowden leaves FSU for Bama, FSU woos Mark Richt back to Tallahassee.

Someone told me that there's a clause in Bowden's contract about being able to leave for the Bama job. I'm not sure about that, but I worked with a former Bama football player briefly. He was there during a Bama coaching change (after Stallings I think). He said Bobby Bowden came to Tuscaloosa, met with the team and told them that he was going to be their next football coach. Obviously FSU did what it took to keep him there.

Just joining in with the wildest possible change so I can come back and say I TOLD YOU SO!!

I think your Dawgs are safe on the Bowden front. Bowden's too smart to leave F$U at this stage in his career. I would assume Bama's smart enough not to hire him either, but that's a more dangerous assumption.

Now if Bowden retires ... then you may have something to worry about. Gotta be tempting to coach at F$U: beat up on the ACC, go to BCS, make lots of money, repeat. It worked out pretty well for him last time he was there.

never coached under or played for the bear
wrong type of offense for bama.. their alumni would roll over in their grave before switching to that type of football

did francione? i didnt realize he ever played/coached under the bear. i never knew too much about him.

i think the bama offense will be much more pass oriented next year. croyle is not an option qb. i agree that croyle probably isnt a prototypical spurrier qb.

the bama alumni may roll over in their graves, but he will bring success to alabama between the school's name and his name. alabama would be a perrenial national title contender, something they haven't been in a long time.

well if nothing else, it was an interesting thought.

Surprise Surprise... someone with ties to the Bear.

I thought that people here were crazy about Barry Switzer and Bud Wilkinson, but I just don't understand the need to hire someone who had any personal knowledge of who Bear Bryant was anytime they are hiring a coach. Maybe if they didn't use that criteria, they would hire a coach that would last more than 2 or so years without being fired. Franchione was the exception, not the rule.

It reminds me of a really good Alabama joke I heard one time about a dead bear, but I can't remember it for the life of me.

Lol, notre dame does get favored in bowl games, but they do not get a big boost in preseason polls; certainly not in the last 4 years, to say the least.

Well, I finally remembered my alabama joke.

Q: What does an Alabama fan and maggots have in common?

A: They can live off of a dead bear for years
